Did I put the right grade oil in my 9? I have valve ticking at idle after the change.

LOL, i had a feeling someone was gonna say w=weight. But its not to all of your surprise. Its something ppl should know, and if you dont then dont advise other ppl on what "weight" to use.

5w-30 mobil 1 is perfectly fine for your car. How many miles do you have one it? After about 60k or 75k I'd suggest using 10w-30. As you get to higher milage, you'll want to use thicker oil. Maybe in the winter time, you'll want to use 10w-30. I don't know how cold it gets over there though.

Anyways, I should of said this before. It really doesn't matter what weight you use. Something thin is recommended. Thats why we are only to use synthetic.

5w-30 and 10w-30 are essentially the same after the oil reaches operating temperatures. The only difference is during cold starts, as the 5w is a tad thinner for easier startups in really cold weather. However, once the oil is at operating temps they have the same viscosity.

You don't want to use a super thick oil like some else suggested.

5w or 10w probably won't make a bit of difference. Also what you are probably hearing is the fuel injectors tick, and you can change your oil all you want and its not going to make a difference. People mistake them for lifter tick all the time, and the evo has noisy injectors.

Mobil1 10w30. Thats the factory fill and recommended oil. I used nothing but that in both my evo,s and never had a tick out of either motor.

i agree with S2K about the tick being ure injectors.. when i got rid of my VIII for my IX we noticed the sound and narrowed it down to the injectors, and this is on a motor with less than 1200 miles on it

My IX ticks too. There was a thread on this, most IX's tick.. even waorse with A/C on. Probably worse with 5w30. Oil cap does say 10W30

I don't mean to upset the apple cart here guys, but I run a 0W-20 in my IX with no valves ticking, in fact, the only ticking I hear is the injectors. Granted, its not Mobile 1 though.

I'm surprised nobody else asked, what did you do to your car that required you to drain the oil?
