Full Race Vertical Flow Intercooler Review

Whats up guys, my first post so I thought I would make it a good one. Wanted to give my impression of this new intercooler. The install was pretty straight foward it utilizes some factory mount points and easily clears the crash bar. Should be no different than any other aftermarket intercooler.

With all the speculation of some of Full Races new products, I can say firsthand that this intercooler works. By eliminating the licp, the shortening of the charge pipe equates to quicker response time. I first noticed the boost gauge zoom to 23 psi faster than it has ever been. ( and this was when i first got on it). Part throttle and transient response has improved. For those guys that already swapped out there licp and noticed a difference, this is the same feeling but way more responsive. I know that people will want to see a dyno chart, I am currently waiting to do a back to back test with the stocker.

In the next couple of weeks the twin scroll will be going in. Stay tuned.

I have not really read or seen much about the vertical setup...what are the advantages versus the regular horizontal ones.

Is the LICP elimination the only one?...
Any figures on weight?
How does it compare to the stock one (size)?

Thanks!

What are the dimensions of this core? Is it 24"x8"x3" or 26"x12"x3"?

the advantages of a vertical flow core are that they keep the same amount of surface area as a horizontal core (same cooling capacity) but have many more rows for the charge air to travel through. This nets a smaller pressure drop and increased flow capacity as compared to a traditional horizontal flow core.

The reduction in charge pipe length noticably improves boost and throttle response, makes the turbo spool faster, and usually results with 20-30whp gains in the low rpm - midrange. here is a good back to back comparison we did on an sr20det

18.9lbs, i just weighed one

It is quite a bit larger than stock

thanks

he is a 100% stock evo IX with exhaust and suspension. Going with our twinscroll F135R or a 40R, not sure yet. Really going to be a great stock motor test tho.

It shortens the charge pipe by about 22 1/2" and doesnt need a 180 degree bend to wrap around the radiator

$849 for just the intercooler by itself:

$1099 for the kit to work with the stock turbo:

Let say I bought the vertical flow intercooler kit for the stock turbo. Then later I want to upgrade to the twin scroll GT35R turbo kit, but without the larger core that comes with it. Will I be able to re-use the stock turbo vertical flow intercooler kit, since it will support all the power the GT35R turbo will produce? The smaller unit is rated at 775whp. That should be enough for the GT35R.
