Question Popping noise at sharp turns

I was pulling out of a parking space today and had the wheel turned all the way over to one side. When I began to back up, I heard this loud popping noise just like if you had the differential locks engaged in a 4x4 and tried to turn real sharp. The car paused a second right before the pop like something was catching and then when it popped, it gave way. I drove around in the parking lot and it kept doing it but only when the steering wheel was turned real sharp and usually had to back up and then go forward.

I don't know enough about drivetrain issues to even hazard a guess at this one. Any help would be appreciated!!

car is lowered and the tires are just a bit wider than standard. I'll check the strut bolts tonight when I get home. However, I can't imagine the fender being the cause of this. tire rub has never been an issue before. I'm thinking maybe I launched a little too hard at the track last week and broke something? What could be the cause of this? I'm scared to drive my car till I figure this out.

Sounds like the same thing that happened to me. I launched at the track and broke the front diff. are you an 03-04? They tend to do that, I've learned.

mine's 03. I highly highly doubt this has anything to do with the suspension. Nothing has changed on the suspension to cause this sound. I haven't had any problems while turning until after coming back from the track. This is why I'm thinking it's the differential.
