**VID**Help Me Identify This Whistling/Cricket Sound
As you can here in the vid I have this whistling/cricket sound at idle and when I open and close the throttlebody it increases/decreases with RPMs. I removed the Cam Gear Cover to see if the sound was louder and it wasn't. Idle and Boost hold fine. It seems to be coming from the pulleys, turbo, or intake manifold. I know its a crappy vid but I could use some help trying to find the source and from your past experiences. Thanks,

You could check the condition of the belts on the cam gear side. Mine has worn down smooth and whines and ticks. A bit of dry lube fixes it for a day or two and then it comes back. The grooved side is still fine so there's no urgent need to replace the belt, however, since it's rather annoying I will get it done at the next service anyway.

Turbo is fine...I removed the intake and blades spin nice and smooth. I did notice as an employee of mine gave it gas the whistling seemed to be coming from my valvetrain. Obviously the ticking and as I put my ear to thevalvecover i could pinpoint the sound and it increased/decreased when opening and closing the TB. Maybe my valve cover is sealed after my cam install. Suggestions?

Without a doubt coming from the valvetrain. Already checked the pulleys, intake, turbo, and did a compression test. I put my ear and my brother verified it's coming from the valvetrain the whistling/ticking both increase at the same time and the noise it virtually non-existent in the upper RPM range. Am I maxing out the stock springs and lifters after my cam install? I pulled the valve cover and everything seems normal. POwer is still there and boost holds strong....

***UPDATE*** Went to the dealership who had phenominal customer service...turns out I'm leaking at my throttlebody and intake manifold gasket! They're ordering me a new throttlebody and intake manifold gasket under warranty. Obviously this would've hurt my performance right?

the throttle body leaks are pretty common actually. in fact so much so i actually stock replacement seals and gaskets for them. but also, when they leak, it is easily detected by a boost leak test, and when we did it, there was no sign of a leak there. i would suspect the seals or gasket went south either at the dyno or sometime on your way home. regardless, boost leaks cause the car to run slightly lean at idle, and slightly rich when in the boost. depending on how big the leak, it might not be noticable (very little power loss), or it can cause the car to barely run (i.e. robbing lots of power).
