external wastegate

has anyone on here ever heard of using the old eclipse trick of welding a flange and tial 38mm wastegate to the manifold? I am thinking of trying this on my evo to eliminate as much taper as possible. I already have a tial wg and will not be out any money to do this. I have been told all you have to do is weld the wg flapper shut and rerun boost control lines. Thank you for any input.

I can´t see increased WG valve area helping to alleviate your taper. On the other hand, an overboost situation, such as boost spike, might be helped by using a larger external gate though. Taper is by definition is a diminution of boost pressure with the flapper valve fully opened. Improving WG flow will only further decrease, not raise, boost pressure. Just my opinion.

I believe Buschur tested an EWG setup on a stock turbo and lost a ridiculous amount of torque and made the same horsepower... this was LONG time ago, try doing a search, although you probably wont find it. I thought about external setup and its effect on the setup. Id like to see one tested over again on a stock turbo or Green.

Proof?

I know Dynoflash posted about an EWG. (I do NOT take everything he says to be fact) In that post I believe that he had said that it didnt show any improvement nor diminishment of power. He provided the video and dyno graph of that car. I am going to go search for it again. I will try to post a link if I find it....

He is a clown and typed that wrong. He was using an extneral dump off the 02 housing. I dont know why he wrote "EWG" because it was not.

If I can find an O2 housing made for External dump, I will be running it.

Well the thing is, what Al wrote was misleading (not intentionally though). EWG means EXTERNAL WASTEGATE. Using an 02 housing with a dump still uses an INTERNAL WASTEGATE, its just a modification to the 02 housing, not the wastegate itself. I have a dump and its great

I think you should go into business making/selling them because I, along with many other members really want one

It crossed my mind. The one huge limiting factor is that just about everyone has different lower intercooler pipe setups and that directly impacts the shape of the dump tube itself. A lot of different LICPs run inches different and there is very limited room in there so it has to be pretty precise. I dont think there could be a "one size fits all" like there is on the 1st generation and 2nd generation DSMs. They have a lot of room to play with on the 02 housing side which allows for many different configuration of the dump tube.

I have an AMS lower piping Hell, if you can make the housing with just a few inches of dump tube and seen some spare tubing detached from the housing, I can have the rest plumbed arround to where it needed to be
