If companies were prowling forums looking for cars to sponsor, our lives would be a heck of a lot easier that's for sure

You have to do all the hard work to get sponsorships from the companies you want. Every now and then, if you have the right connections and shake the right hands, you will fall in to something but even then you have to have something to prove.

But YOU have to do the footwork. And just going to forums and posting "yo d00dz, sponsor me y0" doesn't count. You have to write up proposals about what you are doing and will do with the car, take lots of nice pictures of it cleaned better than you've ever had it cleaned before, and present yourself in the best way possible. Tell the companies exactly what you plan to do with their parts, why you need them, and how you will help their company sell more product. They have heard it all before, trust me. You have to be different. I'm sure 90% of the companies you'd be interested in getting sponsorships probably have plenty of other dudes with Evos they are building into 9 second track monsters busting down their doors looking for sponsorships. You have to be different enough than all of them to get noticed.
