Definitely tow it.

Lesson learned, NEVER romp on your car when its not up to normal operating temperatures. Like others said, bad things can happen. Do not blame the car for being a money pit either, this very well could have been your fault for not operating the car properly.

That's weird my evo does the same thing when I step on it. It sputters as it revs up, then sounds healthy, then continues to sputter. No idle problems or normal driving problems. It's just when I floor it. I thought I had bad gas/fouled spark plugs. Maybe even a ignition coil boot damaged since I recently changed my plugs.

what are the characteristics of a blown engine? the car is not smoking. the oil is low. I have no idea what charge piping is (sorry i'm new to evo's) but i check as many hoses and pipes as i could (the car is on ramps right now) and found nothing loose. whats an easy way of doing a compression test. and no codes are being thrown.
How do you have all this done incl a 2.3l and not know the very basics about what to do... and what not to do with a car?

I'm utterly mystified...

If its knocking your engine is toast.

The $300 for towing will save you the extra cost of a small block

Update:

Brought it in today and they found the problem. There was a (small) hole in one of the major vacuum lines. Because of that, when I was running high boost, the car went super lean. And boom. My number 2 cylinder is disintegrated, the rod tore through the lining of the wall. So now I need a 2.3 short block and a motor rebuild. Gonna run around 5 grand.

Leaking boost would cause a rich mixture in a MAF metered system not lean. It's air that's already been accounted for not entering the cylinder where fuel is happily waiting its arrival for a joyous round of combustion. Unless however this was the vac line to the FPR.

If not I'd look elsewhere for the cause.

My guess that "major" vacuum line was the one to the FPR.
Otherwise an air leak would simply cause the car to run rich.

That really sucks tho. Sorry to be right.

Not to be rude here guy but your problem here is 2 fold. A: you had a small problem with the car that resulted in a very unlucky break.

B: YOU DON'T KNOW SH** ABOUT YOUR CAR AND YOU ARE TRYING TO OWN A CAR MODIFIED WELL BEYOND THE FACTORY TRIM.

You need a serious education before you own something as pretentious as a turbocharged 4 cylinder. If you don't even know what a fuel pressure regulator is, you shouldn't be rocking a 2.3l'd Evo.

Its an invitation for problems I can't even begin to explain. And you don't know enough to help yourself. Until you catch up to where the car is... this kind of thing is going to keep occuring.
