I've been doing man trans for years....gtta admidt...EVO VIII is rather touchy when the A/C is on when shifting....worse then it is if you don't let the car warm up for 2-3 minutes before you take off first thing in the morning

its because the AC lowers your Hp noticeably and that causes you to have to put more gas in with the clutch whih you are not used to causing it to be jerky since there is not enough gas accommodating the clutch.

This is common on all cars, especially turbo cars. I usually turn it off until I'm cruising unless the conditions demand AC.

I have noticed also. It is because the RPMs drop faster. Shift faster with the AC on and it is smoother.

something else i've noticed besides this is that when i have the defogging on (both regular and with the air to the ground combo) it seems the A/C goes on!!! it's noticably colder compared to the other settings!!

the A/C button doesn't turn on though, but i know that it's on! maybe just slightly, but it's definitely on!..

i wonder if this is just my car!..

i can understand why it would turn on though as a practical matter when your windows fog... cus i know i've turned on my A/C in the past in other cars to help get rid of fog sometimes...

Read your manual, yes the defogger turns on the AC. I think that's common on many, if not most cars. My old '91 Mazda 626 didn't do it and it's the only car I've ever known not to use the AC in the defogger.

The AC takes the moisture out of the air which speeds up the defrosting sysle. This is commmon on most cars to have AC come on automatically in defrost.

Yea, you have to clutch out FASTER when you have the AC on. If you clutch out slow, the car will shake when your disk finally makes full contact.

It seems like there is a lot more load on the clutch when the ac is on. The effect can be reproduced if you have 2 or 3 passengers in the car =)
