lol!!
well, there was a lot of corrosion in the intake manifold..
coolest part was taking the oil drain plug out, and coolant coming out!! yes!!
"sir we've found your problem.. youve put oil in the radiator, and coolant in the engine" LOL..
seriously though... the client is a great guy, and we were glad we could help...
im still amazed at the crate motor cost.

I can already hear people jumping on the bandwagon that meth causes corrosion of aluminum and that is what casued the failure. FWIW I have been running meth for 10,000 miles and just took off my intake and it looked fine. Just my personal observation. Although, I run it on a switch and have never been a fan of running meth "full time". It is there when I need it at the flip of 2 switches. 1 meth and 1 map. Utec for those wondering.

It's a IX Crate Engine going into an Evo IX. I don't think it would be stated as an "easy fix" if you would have to wire up Mivec and what not to a non-Mivec car. If you want to know what is involved in hooking up Mivec, Search...A member just recently made a thread about swaping a mivec head into his VIII and Yes, you need a Mivec ECU.

Ok, I have a problem with this and I hope I'm not out of line but there is another issue there. I don't see where there are any signs of an Alky issue but ofcourse I haven't seen the whole picture first hand. Chad is top notch but humor me for a second.....
I see the oil pump shaft separate from the front case. If you look at the pic below you will see that it's not in the pump assembly. The end of that shaft is flattened in a spot where it slides into the oil pump through the oil pump sprocket. I think the oil pump gave out some how. Whether it was do to previous work done or just failure (yeah folks, it happens)

What do you mean by "lot of corrosion in the intake manifold?"
Are you suggesting that the corrosion in the intake manifold is somehow related to the balance shaft failure seen in your picture ?
Please do elaberate

wow! Now that's a clean shop!!!!
Unless you're meth kit dribbles more meth when you don't want it than a dental patient dribbles spit on novacaine, corrosion isn't an issue. A proper meth kit does not cause corrosion issues to aluminum.
