Why we love mitsu motors... ouchie!

check this out...

a car that was towed to us... on a flatbed of course... its from NY...

nice... how are you doing there balance shaft?

and the pieces of the piston were falling out of the car as we moved the motor...

ouch!! alky gone bad? hmmm...

so... thanks to how cool mitsu is... we are installing this!!!

brand new crate motor...... at very reasonable pricing....

what an easy way to quickly fix a problem... otherwise needed a new shortie (apprx 2500).... gasket kit, oil pump cover (another 450).... labor more intensive (say 1700 to swap the new shortie and parts)... and headwork (another 1K or so...) plus fluids etc....

took the motor out today, will be back in tomorrow!

cheers guys

cb

Same here....used alky on my STi b4 and one day car started knocking (auditable too). Kept driving for a day or two til I found some time getting under the car and saw there's a big pinch hole on my alky lines.

Good thing motor was not hurt and held compression perfect thanks to a ultra conservative tune.

Chad, was that a IX or VIII receiving the new crate motor?

Holy crap! That is biggest hole in an Evo 4g63 block that I have eve seen. Congrats John, I think you get an award for that.

Chad, What actually let go. It looks like the rod is intact from the picture. What does the piston look like? BTW this car has less than 10K on it and it is not driven hard and well cared for. Did you test to see if the alky pump is working or if it failed? Many of us would like to know. Tune was done by a very reputable tuner.

I concur. The kit I had does not come with any type of failsafe (coolingmist) and it's nowhere the level of Aquamist.

Hopefully the owner decides not to use alky anymore, after what happened.
