MR Tranny Help
here is the deal, seems my 2nd gear doesn't like me, it seems to make this clunk sound everytime I go in 2nd, its not really a grind, but is but isn't haha. just a metal to metal feel and its more like a crunch, even with the clutch all the way to tge floor. I want to take it to the dealer but its a 260 mile round trip and I don't want a "its normal". any ideas or phrases there looking for to give it a serious look? 5th does this too at times, but if I shift at a higher rpm all is somewhat better...like 4500-6000 range, but daily driving at shifts of 2500-3500 it crunches your opinion? thanks guys and gals..

that is something I was going to ask does the fluid need to be warmed up? now that you mention it, it does seem better after 10-15 minutes of driving. I thought with synthetics in a warm climate this would not be an issue...can it be this simple? is the dia-queen for the mr tranny a full synthetic? thanks again guys....and gals..

my t-case was whineing and still under warrenty. the dealer wanted to charge me 1700 to take the trans out and take it apart to see where the whineing was comming from. EVEN WHEN I TOLD THEM it was the t-case not the trans. they told me they would give me the 1700 back if they found it was a warrenty issue and not my fault. so i sayed F it and called shep and got a built stage 2 t-case installed for 3500.
long story short hope you dont drive all that way for them to tell you they wana charge you to look at it even though yur under warrenty

Try switching to a MOPAR 75W-85 full synthetic GL-4 exact equivalent of the OEM Super DiaQueen fluid. It solved my 2nd gear grind/notchiness issues. PM for a part number. In case some nitwits are going to say that this fluid will cause a problem (without data), here is some data on my car. I have been using this MOPAR fluid since 12,000 miles and there are 70,500 miles on my car right now.

This should be the MOPAR part number: 04874459
It's the only 75W-85 full synthetic they have...and it's clear. It's expensive, but worth it IMHO ($20 quart). It was recommended to by by HondaGuy IIRC. In the spirit of full disclosure, one guy that tried it didn't like it and went back to OEM. But that was the only one. The 2 or 3 others have loved it and are still using it AFAIK. Hopefully your results are the same as mine.

thanks everyone for your input! the mopar fluid is worth a try, further research has shown me that fluid (75-85 part#04874459) is the OEM tranny fluid for the dodge viper. knowing the hp and torque that monster puts down proves to me its definitely valid for our Evo's. thanks for the lead..you guys are awesome..

GM part number off the top of my head is 12346190, but double check that on google. The reason they both use the same fluid is because they both use the same trannys, the NV4500. That fluid is in fact Castrol Syntorq LT 75/85 GL4. I have some sitting in my garage waiting to go in =)

It's interesting to note that the "LT" in the SynTorq stands for low temperature, which is exactly what most 6 speed owners are trying to do...keep temps down. Apparently Castrol worked with OE manufacturer engineers to develop this fluid. I like this stuff even more now.
