Stealthy Place to Mount an EVC Stepper Motor

I searched on this before doing my install and couldn't find anything specific regarding good places to mount the stepper motor for an EVC. Mine happens to be an EVC VI (6), but this mounting location will work for earlier models as well.

With the intake out, I started snooping around looking for a suitable spot when I came across this unused threaded hole on top of the transmission.

After cutting some vacuum lines and routing to the proper ports, it ended up working out nicely.

Lastly, here it is all buttoned up.

The actual thread size is 6mm X 1.25, but yes, I was able to find an OE 10mm-headed bolt to use for this.

I mounted mine on the fire wall behind the intake manifold. No pics sorry.

The reason I chose this spot was to minimize the hose length required to reach the compressor, BOV, and WGA. Shorter vacuum lines means quicker response.

Just a heads up. I know for the evc v stepper motor that HKS specifically said to mount it with the ports facing upward or it would not work properly.

This guys speaks the troof....

If I remember right, I had mine mounted on the frame rail under my HKS RS intake. In the directions, it shows a specific mounting point I believe.

They say that because it's less likely that you get moisture trapped inside the motor if the ports are pointed upward. The same recommendation is made for MAP sensors, etc..basically anything with a port on it. However, it's not really necessary for the unit to function properly.

I thought about the shorter lines to the turbo and WG, but I also thought that being closer to the FPR was more important, along with the said upright stance of the stepper motor itself. In the diagram it appeared to me that way too. I could be wrong though, as I realize what you're trying to convey. One thing I did notice with the mounting set up on transmission, is that the stepper motor will take on more abuse through the vibrations received through the transmission and motor, which could effect the longevity of the stepper motor itself.

Since I'm tapping the manifold boost at the BOV (instead of the FPR), this spot worked very well for my application. I'd rather have one longer path (to manifold pressure) and two shorter lines (to the WGA and compressor outlet) than have two longer lines and one shorter one by mounting the motor on the firewall. Personal preference, one could argue, but there was efficiency logic behind my decision.

Hmmmmm, at the BOV. ...maybe I can find another spot, not on the transmission. Can I just say that the EVC 6 is Effin sick either way? I love this thing.

You may want to put a rubber grommet setup between the stepper motor and the tranny at the very least.

edit: and possibly drill a drain hole on the back of the stepper motor housing to simulate the drain on the bottom that would be utilized in mounting as normally recommended by HKS.
