Wastegate adjustment?

I recently purchased a Forge WG. When I put it on the turbo, I put a couple turns to preload the wg. What is the proper amount of preload when putting one of these wg on? What happen if I have too much preload on the WG? Thanks in advance.

Are you running the stock IX turbo? What sort of boost control are you using(stock BCS, MBCn or EBC)? Have you mounted it yet?

Oh yeah, what is your target boost level?

When you say, "a couple", do you mean, two, full 360 degree turns?

Yeah, I already had it on the car. I put about two 360 turn on for preload. It's still on a stock Evo 9 turbo. I use a MBC to control boost. It's still apike to 24 psi @ 4K rpm and taper down to 21 psi at 7 Krpm.

24# @ 4000 RPM is a bit lazy, on a IX turbo. What gear are you testing boost in? I'd think that about 18-19 PSI of preload should be about right for 24# tapering to 21#.

Just turn your MBC out counterclockwise to the lowest boost level possible. If preload is somewhere around 12-14 PSI, then shorten the actuator rod by another two full turns. After that, then go at it in 1/2 turn increments until you get preload up to 18#. Once you get preload to 18#, then dial boost up to 24# with your MBC.

I usually test my boost in 4th gear, since it's closest to being 1:1. And thanks you for you advice. I'll test it out this week.

As long as the wastegate is set stiffer than the stock one, but not stiff enough to spike harder than 24psi an MBC should yield the same spike with less taper. This is because the air isn't even reaching the wastegate until it has gone past your MBC (at 24psi) unlike an EBC which "flutters" sending pressure to the wastegate a % of time rather than at a certain pressure.

Just an FYI, there is a video on FP's site that shows how to adjust their actuator. It is very similar to the forge.

Got a question, If im having problems with boost creep could this wastegate adjustment be a problem this turbo was from the dealership and never installed on a car before mine so i didnt know if that might be why im having this Boostcreep issue

There's no "one for all setting". It's whatever works best for your setup and needs. You can always adjust it more or less, takes 5 min. I had mine adjusted to spike anywhere between 18psi on lowest to 29psi on the stiffest setting. It's ~23psi now i think. I did find out that adjusting it stiffer does not help with taper on the green with mbc.

You can keep it with no preload at all, it'll work all the same.

Ebay O2 housing is most likely to blame for boost creep.
Also if you adjust Forge WGA too stiff, it will cause a boost hump, which kinda looks like creep, so try lowering the preload on the wga.
