i tried your S1, your cosi, my cosi, the stock ix mivec map, another version of the stock ix mivec map that i wanted to try the next time on the dyno, ttp's mivec map and ams's mivec map LOL...... I think i have touched just about all of the reliable mivec sources i know of and have and still with no luck . i've pretty much ruled out anything from the tuning aspect of things. I have tried all of my tricks and there are no changes. I know it is mechanical, i know it is not timing unless the physical make up of the cam is wrong and the lobes are off on the grind. Scott has tried other cams from this batch and they have all worked fine. So i think we are going to have to look into something else mechanical, but whatever it is, it isnt the obvious stuff, timing, triggers, connections etc.

With the right tools you DO have to. With a hammer and a socket I can see you not having to, but there's a chance you could lose a valve into the engine, then you'd have to pull out the head, or hammer a valve into a piston and bend it, then you're another $300 in the hole.
Pulling the head off isn't that hard. It's just expensive to get a shop to do it. Just pull the head off, get a large C clamp, and a deep socket. Put the socket on the retainer and the clamp on the socket and the head of the valve, then start tightening. Then the spring compresses without pushing down the valve and the locks should pop out. Then just do that 15 more times.

If you all think that old hammer and socket trick is wrong it is actually a marketed tool from Matco with magnets inside the receiver hole to catch the retainers. Although it is dinosaur tech.

lol...wow, slow down chief.
I was clarifying YOUR assumption, that from some reason we where goin to use the OLD bash a $2k head. Enough of that. Sorry to insult your intelligence, but from this entire thread, where did you get that comment?
