I have done many with the head on the car and never

Elighten me. I didn't think you could get a compressor on it.

Jason, I am sure you have already gone through this but I would try at least 3 different MIVEC maps to see if anything changes. Try stock, RS, My S1 and my Cossie or any combination thereof. I am sure this isnt the problem but humor a short bald man.

thanks JB, thats what i thought as well....

i tried your S1, your cosi, my cosi, the stock ix mivec map, another version of the stock ix mivec map that i wanted to try the next time on the dyno, ttp's mivec map and ams's mivec map LOL...... I think i have touched just about all of the reliable mivec sources i know of and have and still with no luck . i've pretty much ruled out anything from the tuning aspect of things. I have tried all of my tricks and there are no changes. I know it is mechanical, i know it is not timing unless the physical make up of the cam is wrong and the lobes are off on the grind. Scott has tried other cams from this batch and they have all worked fine. So i think we are going to have to look into something else mechanical, but whatever it is, it isnt the obvious stuff, timing, triggers, connections etc.

Pulling the head off isn't that hard. It's just expensive to get a shop to do it. Just pull the head off, get a large C clamp, and a deep socket. Put the socket on the retainer and the clamp on the socket and the head of the valve, then start tightening. Then the spring compresses without pushing down the valve and the locks should pop out. Then just do that 15 more times.
What are you talking about "a hammer and a socket" thanks Fred Flintstone. You've never heard of taking the cams off, compressing the cylinder, using a Dummy cam (a rod that I made out of an old cam) and a Valve Spring Compressor that I made also and taking them off like that. Guess not. Ask any old school v8 guy.......

I love forum mechanics

If you all think that old hammer and socket trick is wrong it is actually a marketed tool from Matco with magnets inside the receiver hole to catch the retainers. Although it is dinosaur tech.

Simplest Fix is to reverse the installation and put the stock cams back in.
