Question about altitude and octane

Since I moved into the mountains (elv. 7700) and came from sea level. I noticed the first thing is they only carry 91 octane here. But the car seems to run quite strong up here using 91 with a 93 tune. Granted the turbo spools a bit slower because of the lack of air up here.

But heres my question. Since the lack of air you wouldnt really need a high test fuel here, right? With the lack of oxygen wouldnt the 91 sort of act like 93? Once I get my hands on a new Tactrix cable (lost in the move) Ill throw up some logs once I get the chance, but with the winter setting in it might not be until next spring.

Does anyone have anything to add or any more insight into this? This has been boggling me for a few months.

yep at that altitude you wont need 93oct but you should get evoscan and the tactrix cable and do some logs just to make sure your not knocking.
also the turbo spools slower due to the lack of denser air

I live at 7,300' Elev. and we only get 91 here too.
Yes because the air is thinner and there is is less oxygen so we can get away with slightly lower octane.
I would be interested in seeing your logs.

Interested in this as well. I moved from GA to Reno, NV and have a great 93 oct. Jestr tune but i got tuned for 91 oct. before i moved. Would love to run the Jestr tune again.

I would give him an email, he can probably adjust it to a new octane. Next time talk to him which is quite frequently Ill show him this thread.

I just put the ECU+ back in the car, since the Tactrix cable I have is no good anymore for logging. I should have a log coming soon if the weather holds out.
