Question possible failing water pump

recently my car has developed a tick at idle. From searching, I found others experiencing the same thing. It sounds like the noise is coming from the water pump/water pump pulley. I loosened the drive belt to check for play in the pulley and did have some side to side play. correct me if I am wrong but from what i understand, that pulley is fixed to a shaft in the pump and should not have any play in it what so ever. as far as the cars performance, coolant temps remain consistent(proper operating temps), no whine of dying pump, and no leaks. Any input would be great. thanks guys

How many miles do you have on the car? I think i'm getting that noise as well but I've always had it and my car has been running fine so I never really bothered much with it.

i have an 06 with 19000 miles on it. take a listen under the hood for a recurring tick at a constant interval at idle. you can not hear it while driving. tick.....tick.....tick....tick...kinda slow

If the pulley is tight on the shaft then the water pump bearing is going. It should start leaking as the wobble will take out the seal.

I heard it but i think it was comming from the AC compressor not the water pump. I also didn't see any leaks of any sort.

well, i am not sure how tight it is. it has some play in it left to right. like i said I have not had any water pump malfunctions as of yet...You dont think it could be coming from the crank pulley do you?

I'm not sure man, when I was listening to it. I just put my ear up to the A/C compressor and i heard a bunch of noise comming from there. I haven't gotten any leaks in the system as of yet so I don't think it's the water pump.
