Rev limiter as shift indicator?

For spirited street driving, are there any issues with using the rev limiter as a shift indicator? I've set the rev limit to 7K rpm and that's where I shift.

yea big problem....

go ahead and log bouncing that and youll see a 20+ knock....

you should rely on feel for shifting not a certain rpm

You should leave your rev limiter at the stock value. You should not "bounce" of it to know when to shift.

I have data logged it numerious times. I see no further ill effects than the stationary rev limit, which I've also logged. Please explain. Thanks.

I just don't see why you wouldn't just shift when it feels like 7k? You won't hurt the car going a little higher or lower. I have no clue why anyone would lower their rev limit from factory, does it make the car feel safer to drive??

I know drag racing you will murder your ET hitting the revlimiter at all.

I prolly have a GIG of logs. When i'm sideways i'm on the 8K revlimit of my 2.3 quite a bit. (i'm sideways a lot)

and it doesn't knock. Neither does my 5250 2step.

also i found if i stand on the gas from idle and then hit the 2step it will knock, however if ease into it while staging then first yellow light floor it. No knock will be present.

Okayyyyyyyyyyy...

Then will someone please explain how the NLTS mod works? I assume it is on the same technique as the stationary or max rev limiter. Is the NLTS mod also considered a no-no?

I thought all the tops drag EVOs running AEM boxes were using NLTS. Isn't that a rev limiter functionality as well?

yes. NLTS is good. Its just not good to use a rev limiter as a shift indicator.

not only is it a high knock count you'll find that you tend to drop p[ower a bit before redline, might be best to shift when that peak pwoer died out
