GT35R Spoolup Answers (part 2)

The first spoolup answers thread I thought was very good at giving people an idea of how laggy a GT35R car is. However it is 19 pages and cluttered with a lot of arguments and conjecture. I've created this thread to perhaps remedy that situation as I think there still is a lot of confusion of how laggy a GT35R is.

May I ask that only users with datalogs of GT35R's for 4th gear pulls on the road post in this thread. It's far to difficult to eyeball this as if you are in a properly setup GT35R car on boost in 4th you have to be looking at the road!

Please post 20 psi and 30 psi datapoints.

4th gear is much too unsafe to be logging on the street (especially with a 35R).

4th gear log to redline with a 35r on the street is asking for a reckless driving ticket.

crcain, thats a pretty serious setup you are running

By popular demand

3rd gear is allowed as well.

For my car it is:

20 psi at 4653 rpm
30 psi at 5600 rpm

I must say if you can't do a 4th gear pull to 6k rpm on the street well I guess it's not much fun on the street.

Also if we can please try to keep the thread to posted datalogs rather than discussion I think it would be helpful.

your 3rd gear results are interesting, I just looked up the data from my own 3rd gear logs with a GT35r and they aren't far off from what you are claiming.

This is surprising considering the two major differences between our setups are #1- you have way more mods, including a stroker 2.4l & #2- your boost was set much higher then mine, so while my WG starts opening earlier and spoolup is slowed yours stays closed and continues to build.

Here is my data from 3rd gear with boost set to 22psi

2000 0.06
2100 0.68
2200 1.03
2300 1.42
2400 1.6
2500 1.9
2600 2.07
2700 2.29
2800 2.6
2900 2.99
3000 3.43
3100 3.73
3200 4.3
3300 4.91
3400 5.48
3500 6.14
3600 6.97
3700 7.84
3800 8.76
3900 9.28
4000 10.38
4100 11.6
4200 13.04
4300 13.83
4400 15.53
4500 16.45
4600 17.45
4700 19.42
4800 20.21
4900 21.47
5000 21.96

I agree I'm surprised as the diff is very small. Maybe it would be more exaggerated if you ran higher boost? Do you have any 4th gear data?

What kit and spec is your 35R?

crcain, pipers are a very aggressive cam, they can't be very good for spool rate, no? Wonder if that's not holding your midrange down a bit?

Yes I'm sure cams play a big role in it. If we can get more datalogs in this thread it should prove interesting trying to figure out what parts make for a very nice spooling car. For me the difference between a stock 2 litre + stock head to the 2.4 w/ported head and Pipers was night and day. One was awful to drive the other was wonderful.

Wow good stuff guys keep it coming. I was loving how responsive my car was but look at this from KevinD. Almost 30 psi at 5k rpm in 3rd on 2 litre! In my car difference betwen 4th and 3rd for 30 psi is 1100 rpm! So can infer you make 30 psi at 4k in 4th gear?

I'm wondering if something was up with my 3rd gear pull cuz 1100 rpm diff in spool between gears is a lot. There does appear to be some wheel spin in my 3rd gear pull if you look at the dip in rpm. Might have to re-test I dunno.

Compare gear ratios also as yours is a RS and prob has the short ones.
