Drop-in replacement turbo options

First - my goals: I'm building a car for PPIHC next summer (more info in thread in my sig) and I'm looking for direct fit replacement turbos. I will be running an Evo IX motor with an AEM EMS and by the time everything comes together, I plan to have the normal supporting mods (full 3" exhaust, upgraded IC, cams, etc) but may still be using a stock block. In my class I can run whatever fuel I want, so I'll either be running E-85 or Sunoco 104. Also keep in mind that the start line for this race is ~9,400 feet and the finish line is over 14,000 which means that I need a turbo with a bit more headroom than you would normally recommend for my power goals. I'd like to have ~450-475whp.

I see that people are hitting mid-400whp with the FP Green, which is great, but I plan to run anti-lag during practice and competition runs and at $1700 a pop, the Green isn't cheap to keep in the spares bin. PTE has some other options which run $1100-1200. I know how the 3076 works with the standard Garrett exhaust housing, but how will the mitsu exhaust housing effect things? What about the SCM34R, SCM44R or SCM60R?

Any thoughts or recommendations welcome.

Thanks for the help,

Dave

turn off the anti lag and run the evogreen20g it spools instantly when you're shifting at high rpm anyway.

Anybody with experience (good or bad) with the garrett/mitsu hybrids on the link I provided? Thanks for the tips on the regular 20g...I will check into the pricing on those.

I'm sure the spool on a Evo Green is great...but there's still no substitute for anti-lag when you're trying to pull out of a slow turn where you're between 1st & 2nd gear....which there are quite a lot of at PPIHC, especially once you clear treeline.

The turbos in your link are not bolt on for the evo. Those were bolt on for the DSMs that had the engines mirrored. The only bolt-on turbos larger than the Green are the ATP turbos.

Since you´ll be running an AEM EMS, then you can get one of those modified, British 4" inlet IX compressor housings for either a 9.0 backsided Green or similarly configured White Rabbit-IX turbo(WR-9). The 9.0 turbine housing will give you instant spoolup and transient response. The 4" inlet bellmouth and diametrically constant intake tract will maximize incoming air. With this setup you may find ALS to be overkill.

Bummer! Thanks for the info though. I absolutely HATE it when companies can't list their products properly on the web.

Back from the dead ... what route did you go in the end, and did you ever get confirmation from PTE on the compatibility of the Garrett turbos? They are very attractive being dual BB and 2/3 the price of an FP Green. If it's not a direct drop-in, can somebody guess at what is needed to make it fit in an Evo?

8 Reasons Why Garrett's Dual Ball Bearing Systems Is For You:
1. Exceptionally Crisp Throttle Response
2. Spools Up to 15% Quicker than Journal Bearing Turbos
3. Quicker 0-60 Elapsed Times
4. More Tolerant of Marginal Lubrication
5. Less Chance of Seal Leakage
6. Improved Damping & Control over Shaft Motion
7. No Thrust Bearing, which Eliminates a Weak Link
8. Maximum Efficiency, Performance & Reliability at an Affordable Price

Compressor Size: 56mm
Compressor Cover: T04E

I'm still on the stock turbo, though after my first event this past weekend at 9,000 foot elevation I wish I weren't. The stock IX turbo only seems to be able to sustain 18psi in the upper RPMs. I think the solution (for next year) is going to be a high compression stroker motor and a 30r for tight twisty events, and a 35r for the PPIHC...unless someone wants to donate one in the next two weeks.

VoidHawk...

you would need a manifold/02 housing that will bolt up to the dsm flanges, thats it.

there was a setup like this in the FS fourms a little while ago

thanks! What about water/oil lines, and the compressor outlet pipe - would the OEM stuff work?

no, you would need oil and water lines specific to garret BB turbos

from www.extremepsi.com

oil feed line is ~35
oil return line ~75
collant lines ~40
