Mike, I agree on that. We still have a nearly new twin hd that I was going to build into a triple. Not sure whether to do that , or just rob a Tilton from my current 'inventory' if you know what I mean. ha, ha, ha, good inside job, or I mean, inside joke.

If it turns out to be that retainer popped off, I've heard of it happening from time to time, ams has that conversion kit which uses a push style slave cylinder to get rid of that whole clip deal... or like you said, Tilton.. I have no experience with those, but I heard they are setup different

They used to be known for losing a clip on the throwout bearing, but since I haven't ever been through it either, it's only supposition at this point. We had great luck with our previous clutch, identically the same. During the recent engine build, we decided to go ahead and take advantage of 'clutch access' and replaced the clutch and flywheel. The old one was still good, I just didn't want to take any chances with about 35 passes on it. Now, I'm wondering if I should have. Now, it may be Tilton time.

leecavturbo, I don't really think that the clutch it'sself is damaged, but that's just guessing. I think like liqquid said, it's probably a clip. Hope so anyway. Not sure how much work it is to replace/reposition though. On the bright side, I've got some good data for the next step in the new tune.

There seem to be two problems with the Exedy clip. One, there are a number of reports of them coming off under high speed shifting. Two, they're difficult to find for replacement purposes, since many people have been told that the clip itself is not available without buying a full new clutch. That would be BS if correct, but it has been reported here before.

Rebuilding the "spare" into a triple is a good option. The AMS conversion is also nice, but expensive.

The Tilton is another option, but even more expensive. Too bad you didn't need one last week, when I sold the Tilton that I'd had posted. You have another Tilton in your "spares" inventory? No worries, then..... WAIT!!! NOW I GET IT!! put down the tools... keep your hands in sight.... back slowly away from that car!!!

9sec9, I had the same thing happen to me on the stock clutch and ended up being a faulty casting of the clutch fork - just snapped in 2 places for unknown reasons. FYI, love the details and pics.

I wonder if placing a MAP sensor right near the compressor outlet would allow you to diagnose boost leaks very easily? Might be an option for the standalone users with extra analog inputs to the ECU.

The boost leak was fixed, now it's the 'clutch leak'. I haven't actually established what the issue is. I understand that there's a master clutch cylinder and slave that could be something to look at. Since I'm not an experience Mitsu mechanic, I'm having to learn about one piece at a time. I'm beginning to feel like Johnny Cash.

Ouch, I'm hoping for something simple like the master/slave cylinder.
