2) Resulting foam would decreasing overall oil intake into oil pump
3) Loss of oil pressure
4) Failure of bearings or some such
This is of course an EXTREME case

That doesn't mater. I have had about 4 different weight's of oil in my car. It all depends on what you are doing with the car, and what time of year it is. Up in Buffalo NY where I used to live, I would run 0w-30 during January/February because it would get down to negative temperatures overnight. Int he mornings, sometimes I would try and start the car when it was -19* outside. I would rather have a slightly thinner oil in the car to make sure that nothing is starved of oil during the really cold winter months.
Down here in SC, I run 10w-30 because it is hotter. During one of my track days recently I put in 15w-50 because I was going to be beating the car like it owed me money. I wanted the extra protection of the slightly heavier oil.
It all depends on what you are going to be doing to the car, your driving style, and where you live climate wise.

what is your procedure you use when you do the oil changes.
I usually put well below amount needed then let sit and measure. add more measure add more measure until perfect.

Unless you drain it, you'll notice the excess oil getting forced out of the engine in some way... I remember when I was younger, I did that on the Isuzu Rodeo I drove at the time, and there would be oil along the bottom of the side skirts. I'd drain some oil out if I were you, unless you have to have to clean up all that crap.
