How do you get the stock air box out.

How do you get the 4 bolts that connect the MAF off the stock air box. I tried with a socket and then a wrench there isnt enough room to turn the bolts at all in there? Any ideas anyone?

Yeah it's a bit of a pain in the ***.

The two bottom ones I got off easy, then on one of the top ones I broke the plastic ridges that hold the bolt from the inside in place.

So what I did was that I grabbed the inside with some thin long pliers and then took an impact wrench to the nut. Came right off.

I dont even have enough room between the IC piping to get the bottom one off. I cant get enough leverage in there. Also with the other side the battery is in the way so i cant even turn a wrench enough to break the bolt loose.

I suggest you take the entire airbox out.

You have to take the whole box out. Just pull the mas out of the intake piping, then disconnect the plug. Impact wrench is the way to go for the four bolts. But if you have already bronken any of the plastic, then the impact gun won't work well either. It'll just spin the bolt. Like leousm said, use some pliers or some vice grips to hold the head of the bolt in place and then hit it with the impact wrench. I had broken three of the plastic ridges using a socket wrench and the one bolt that I didn't try to loosen was the only one that came out easily with the impact wrench. I think Buschur, RMR and others should have put some instructions in along with their air filters so we all wouldn't bust up our air boxes. Or maybe this should be a sticky?

You don't need to remove the MAF from the bottom part of the airbox to get it out. Those four gold bolts just attach the MAF to the airbox. Just disconnect the hose coming out of the MAF going into the turbo and make sure to remove all the bolts holding the bottom half of the airbox in place and it will come right out.

do like leousm said, remove the bolts holding the bottom half of the airbox in the car, remove tubing from back of MAF, remove wires from MAF and pull out whole box... then you should be able to work on gettin the MAF off without breaking anything..

Can someone throw me a bone, what do you mean when you say use an impact wrench. Sorry for the newbie question, its just that I opened up my stock air box today to install my buschur filter and those four bolts were just too tight of a fit for my wrench. I am not really up to date with my tools so plz help me out. I looked on the entire forum for instructions or pics and I couldn't find much.

BTW, I am also installing evo Vii tails, does anyone know if I have to remove the entire trunk liner or what?

thanks guys
