MAF Implosion!!!

I know there is a few threads out there about this but I figure I post it anyway.

I just finish getting my car tuned by Chris at AMS (thanks Chris) the car was running strong and boosting hard. One day after I launched my car it started running crappy. My evo kept sputtering and dieing off. So naturally i changed my spark plugs. The car still ran crappy so I pulled the plugs and they were extremly black (abnormal rich condition) I also noticed durring idle my afr was 12 and the idle was also irraticle.

I started a boost leak test and when I took off my intake I heard a loose noise. I took of my filter and found.....

I was like

So naturally guys Im looking for a MAF thats in good condition.

I don't think air can do that alone... There must have been other factors.

Didn't realize new MAF were that expensive. What's the difference with the JDM?

I think he ment to say JDM MAP instead of MAF. Just two different ways to measure the amount of air going into the engine. The preferred method is obviously MAP.

I know that DSM MAS units have a little frame that retains the honeycombs and keeps them from tumbling or coming loose. Does the Evo MAS not use such a thing?

Yes I concur. Small children and squirrels indeed can affect MAF imploding. The can do the same to speakers cones too

Those squirrels are especially well known for this. Top tip: Always check your air box or induction piping for squirrels when replacing/ cleaning filters. The damage can be very nasty.
