Stroker Kit???

Can anyone tell me the gist of stroker kits? I'm fairly new to the internal modification scene, so I'm trying to gather as much knowledge as possible to decide if they're good investments or not. So far people on evom.net have been very helpful. I appreciate it. Thanks people!

These kits use a longer stroke for added displacement. This will make your turbo spool faster due to more volume of air being moved through the cylinders. Generally speaking guys usually do this when they go to a larger turbo like a 35R for example. If you are going to keep the stock turbo your $ may be better spent elsewhere.

Bascially a stroker kit has shorter connecting rods, (the things that attach to your pistons) those rods are connected to the crank. With a shorter rod the piston has to travel farther down the cylinder creating more space for gas/air, thus creating more displacement.

Stroker motors are very popular in the V8 world. Big HP and torque numbers, same for us 4 bangers, although we can't go as big as they do. Hope that helped.

That is completely incorrect. The rod is exactly the same length as it is on the 2.0. The crank is slightly larger, causing the piston to move 100mm per stroke rather than 88mm per stroke. The piston pin location is moved up on the piston to accomodate the longer stroke length without the piston hitting the head.

a shorter rod??? How would it then make its way to the top of the cylinder and create compression??

There are many ways to do strokers and shorter rods on stock crank is not 1 of them.. stock crank and longer rod with a stroker plate so it doesnt come up and hit the heads is 1 way. another is to use a crank that has a longer stroke with the stock rod.. as said above.

AMS EVO Stroker Kits

Increase displacement to 2.3 liters with the AMS Stroker Kit. Expect a 10-15% increase in torque and spool up 400-500 rpm sooner than the 2.0. Road racers will pull through corners better and drag racers will pull harder down the 1320 with the added torque. Take some advise from the V-8 guys: "There is no replacement for displacement"

Kit includes:

New Crank
Eagle Rods
Ross Pistons
ARP Main studs
Bearings

OPTIONS AVAILABLE:
*.020 pistons *stock bore

ROD TYPE:
*Eagle
*Oliver(+300)

Mitsubishi EVO
2.3L Evo #99572

Stroker kits increase the stroke of the crankshaft, therefore increase the overall displacement of your engine. The most popular way of increasing your displacement is to use the 100mm 4G64 factory Mitsubishi crank. You can use the standard length rod (preferably an aftermarket rod: Eagle, Scat, Oliver, Arrow, Carrillo, Crower, etc.) and buy aftermarket pistons made for the increased stroke and standard rod length.

If you don't want to use the 4G64 crank, then there are many aftermarket options such as Eagle, K1 Technologies, Brian Crower, and so on.

If you're thinking about any purchase, first determine your goal. This includes max horsepower, expected lifespan, cost, and more. If you're only looking to make 400whp, don't bother buying a stroker kit.
