well found this after pulling my car apart.i took the car out down the street and decided to launch it since i was feeling spirited .i feathered the clutch out and car just moved like an inch and thats all she wrote.felt like i broke an axle or something.this is an 05 acd transfer case/helical lsd with about 15k on it.car has about 10 passes at the drag strip at over 600hp on street tires.i do not daily drive the car.maybe a couple of times a week.i searched but i didnt find any threads with this kind of failure on an oem helical lsd.well sending it off to shepard monday for a quaife.btw, i am not questioning the failure as i drive it like i stole it when i do drive this thing.......just thought you guys would find this intresting

 

I'd make fun of you like I'm sure others on here will, but the fact that you have over 600 WHP and this is the first I've seen of a street driven helical being broken says something in itself.

Still, I can't wait to see all of the "stupid noob!" posts to start coming your way.

lol.....its not because i just let go of the clutch pedal to launch it,i did feather it for this reason,i was really surprised that something broke with the light launch,i guess all the abuse finally caught up........

doesnt buschur use a stock lsd in his 9 second evo

 

It may not be the fault of the unit itself, but the way it was set up at the factory. This seems to be an issue with some TCs in general.

Im getting stage 2 done from shep...This scares me now! I wish I have more $$ for the stage 3 Quaife LSD

 

what is quaife? is that a cusco lsd? sorry about the newb question? And also is there 2 seperate lsd's one for the front dif and one for the rear dif?

Quaife is an excellent after-market LSD - much stronger than the OEM. And, yes, some EVOs have a front LSD and a rear LSD. You might even refer to the center diff as an LSD as well.

So, if you tell you mom that you're going for a drive with some other high school kids and you've got three hits of LSD, you would be accurate. But, be prepared to catch her when she faints.

I broke two this last race season. I will be going with the quaife or cusco later this year when I do little upgrading once again.

sucks though,i was sopposed to set up a run with a new z06 on bottle,thats why i took the car out to make sure everything was cool,good thing it happened close to my house not somewhere on highway 27
