ix cams po11 code
so i have installed a set of gsc stage 1 cams on my IX and i keep getting code p011 which is timing over advance bank 1 .... but i know my timing is dead on bc i pulled everything off down to the timing belt and found the problem fixed it. It runs fine sounds fine .... went out for a drive about 20 minutes everything is fine stop at a friends house turn the car off for about 5 mins leave go to go home get down the road a mile or two and bam check engine code drive home pull the codes .... p011 twice one hard code and soft (pending) code.... my ? is what could cause this??
yes i have a tune for the cams from mellon and am still working with him on this problem just looking for some insight on the problem

I've been working with Troy on this and it's probably important to add some history.
I tuned the car before the cams were installed, no issues.
Troy installed new cams, loaded my new ROM and the problems started.
I verified the ROM I used was correct...It's a base ROM I've used on countless cars with the same mods/boost/octane etc.. to get us started before dialing in the fuel/timing etc.. In fact it's the same ROM he had before just with updated fuel/timing maps..so I'm very confident that there isn't a problem with the tune.
I also suspect that one of the cams is out of time but suggested that he create this thread to get more people to help because I'm out of ideas...I do most of my own work but I'm not really a mechanic, just a tuner
He sent me a log of the car doing a pull and it looks terrific..nothing odd about it. It might need some tweaking to perfect the tune but I'm hesitant to move forward until the CEL issue is resolved. Wrapping a tune around a problem isn't a good idea because when the real issue is fixed later the tune is going to be way out of whack which could be dangerous.
there's got to be a simple solution to the problem...hopefully someone can help us figure it out.

The ECM optimizes the intake valve timing using the VVT (Variable Valve Timing) system to control the intake camshaft. The VVT system includes the ECM, the Oil Control Valve (OCV) and the VVT controller. The ECM sends a target duty-cycle control signal to the OCV. This control signal regulates the oil pressure supplied to the VVT controller. The VVT controller can advance or retard the intake camshaft. If
the difference between the target and actual intake valve timings is large, and changes in actual intake valve timing are small, the ECM interprets this as the VVT controller stuck malfunction and sets a DTC.
You may have inadvertently clogged the OCV filter located on the back of the head passenger side if I remember correctly. Without looking I couldnt tell you. Use correct build up oil when installing new cams. Rtv in the oil system when putting valve cover back together. Im just throwing things out there to help narrow it down.
