AMS Lexan Window kit... Any Interest?

Tim and the guys in the shop have been doing some wild things in the back lately. Some really awesome cars are in the works as we have mentioned in a few posts. Because of these new builds Tim though you guys might be interested in a Complete Lexan Window kit for the EVO. I think its an AWESOME IDEA and for those that are looking to turn the corner and really shed some weight... this is a big step.

Here are some of the finer points of the kit we are proposing:
  • -Kit includes all pieces for entire car except for small triangular windows in rear doors
  • -Front windshield 3/16 lexan NHRA legal
  • -All door windows and rear windshield 1/8 lexan
  • -All door lexan will be able to utilize factory window moldings and mounting locations
  • -Windshield will be able to be glued into place and use all moldings similar to factory
  • -All lexan will be molded to match factory contours
  • -All lexan will be scratch resistant on both inside and out

Retail price should be about $1425 plus shipping and handling.

Let us know if you think this is something you would like to see us make. We don't need many to get this going. Maybe 5-10 sets and we are good.

How significant would the weight savings be?

I would like it but not as a whole kit. I would just like everything except for the rear door windows. Maybe make it an option to split it up. I have been waiting for someone to do this.

I definitely think it would be a hit but only if it wasnt a package like the above member said. Also, give an idea on weight savings so people can accurately say, yes losing X amount of weight is worth X amount of money!

It gets me everytime. We should at least keep the EVO1-9 section ahead of the X... But I am biased.

Can we get the weight savings numbers please would be the best selling point for us all and if it was a considerable amount I would do it all front/rear and all doors.

if they are molded, mount up as stock, and are scratch resistant - why wouldn't they be able to?

yes i was wondering if they could go up and down too.

i would be interested... but i would want all windows BUT the front since it's still a street car. i wouldn't be able to do it right away - but down the road would be a nice option. i know the weight savings wouldn't be as great but still a nice option

I will work on a rough weight savings for your guys.

These would be able to roll up and down if you wanted. I would really not recommend this for a street car though. I think you will find you wont like it.

Eric

Very interested, but why wouldn't I like this on a street driven car?

Eric - I don't think Lexan is street legal AFAIK.

The Evo door glass is surprisingly light and thin. I realized this when I had my doors gutted to swap to manual RS stuff. I am sure front and rear glass is heavier. Do post the weights, I'd be curious - I should have weighed mine!
