Has anyone tried this.. would this be a good option for people who can get race gas locally?

I use it 25-26psi on pump no knock 32oz per 7-8 gallons of 93 just for insurance.

 

I honestly don't think a tiny bottle of anything will make a huge difference in a few gallons of pump fuel. Lets do the math ...

If that stuff were, say, the equivalent of 130 octane fuel ... lets mix in 32oz (.25 gal) of the additive in to 7 gal (1/2 tank) of 93 octane ... you end up with 94.2 octane fuel.

Most of those additives are based on a mix of Toluene and Xylene (and some other things), which are 114 oct and 117 oct respectively. Use those numbers with the same calculation and you get closer to 93.8 oct.

So, in short, those additives may make a slight difference, but they are in no way a replacement for race fuel. Also, you are much better off dropping by Sherwin Williams and getting 5 gal of straight Toluene for ~$37.

This stuff is great! I've been using it for 3 years now and it's shown me results. It's proven to work for me and cars I have to tuned, both on the dyno and and logging in the street.

 

I will agree ... a difference in 1 octane point can be noticed while tuning. That's about what this stuff will give you. However, it's doesn't give you 107 octane fuel ... probably not even mixed at a 1:1 ratio ...

 

Did you have any issues with your plugs and O2 sensors? I know several people who have a residue/coating on their plugs/O2 sensors after using it. Their resistance to knock did improve, so the stuff does work.

 

I have beeen using torco for quite some time with great results. On my pumpgas map when my zero knock limit is around 23psi a can of torco raises that limit to 26psi easy with the ocassional one knocksum during overboost but that's it. 3psi extra its huge for our cars in terms of extra power.

I remember a guy tested torco in a lab and it showed that in ten gallons of 93 a 32oz can of torco raised it to 96.5 octane. Its not the 100 octane they claim but 3.5 full octane units its huge. Plus you have the extra safety.

As far as the red residue is concerned never had issues. As far as the price is concerned a five gallon jug which is equivalent of 20 cans can get you 20 fillups which in my case they last for over 4000 miles of driving (200 miles minimum per tank times 20 cans).

 

I've ran torco on my own car, and it definately works. However, the one problem is that the torco makes the exhaust fumes really really bad.

 

Torco is MMT (methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl), which acts like TEL, though not as potent. It might affect O2 sensors and catalytic converters, and might accelerate engine wear. 107 from 93 isn't going to happen, but it's not snake oil like some others, which are nothing more than a small bottle of paint thinner.

Yeah, that is huge ... technically 236.5 octane huge. I'm sorry ... I can't believe that.

the only way this could have happened is if the "93" in question was simply really good 93. The pump octane rating is in fact a minimum rating, so that 93 could be higher than 93 initially.

 

Go read and come back, okay? Of course it's not 236.5 octane just go read about the additives and their ability to supress knock. This stuff has been used fo 20 years in all forms of racing. It's just another witches brew like oxygenated gas and lead it works that's a fact! 236.5 octane funny funny

 

yes it works but u gotta have only a few gallons of 93 to reach the promised octane rating. no need to take my word for it, just call up torco

Check out the Lucas booster. From the article: "To date Lucas octane booster is the only booster tested that had significant results with only one bottle in the tank. One bottle is enough to make 10 gallons of 96.6 octane out of 93." If you do the math that's roughly 4 dollars per gal for 97 octane( 8 bucks a bottle and 3.20 gal.). Not too shabby.

My friend is a distributer of Torco. He tested it with 10 gallons of Chevron 91 and 1 quart of Torco and it came out to 96.5 octane. He runs Torco in his 800whp Corvette, for 3 years now. He run 96 octane all the time. If it is good enough for his vette it is good enough for an Evo. It is very popular on the Corvette forums.

I used it on my STi. I loved it. DynoFlash tunned my STi and he could not believe 1 quart could do that. It does turn your plugs and tail pipe orange but it doesn't affect anything. I will be having my Evo tuned to it in 2 weeks.
