Is that what he told you or did you read that in the Cliff Notes version of the Welding Handbook?

My divided T4 manifold fits a gt42 behind the stock radiator as well and that has been out since 2003.

lol hows it going Ron It was good to meet you down at sema. Ron your manifolds are top notch also As you can see here this is a thread were im promoting ETS and what they have done for me. They work with my goals and help me out allot. I gave them the car less than a week ago. He has to have the car done by Monday that includes turbo kit, water to air,and exhaust plus make a radiator for a big show i have up here in Portland next week. With the time line ive given them i would say there hauling ***.
Please edit your thread and do not come in here to start a vendor war

Thanks for the kind words Paul. It was too bad you had to leave Vegas that night everyone went out. We had a good time.

I'm not into Vendor wars nor am I doing any bashing. I don't have time for that and I'd rather use my extra energy to get more crap done around here or getting some fresh tail. From the looks of things ETS has served you very well.

Generalizing that using a lot of filler rod, to achive a convex shaped and wide bead, makes for a strong weld is not true. That was my point, nothing less and nothing more.

I should know master Shearer you sold me on of the first ones!

Although I run a half radiator - it does fit 100% the stock radiator

Interestingly, I have never had any over heating problems with the half radiator.

Thanks as always for your manifold - it has performed 100% and never a crack

Our welds have a wider and more convex bead mainly because our elbows have a larger chamfer. The reason for the larger chamfer is so that there is more surface area in the welded zone, which results more welded area per joint. Because of the chamfer, we are also able to make sure the weld is fully penetrated, we are able to see the deepest part of the weld as we are welding, this has resulted in more consistent welds than relying upon penetration alone.

The convex outward appearance is correct for the chamfer, and thickness of the material being welded. If there was no chamfer, and we just piled a bunch of rod on top of two butted pipes, then it would be no better, or even worse than a regular, well penetrated weld. Please see the pics for a comparison of our chamfer and a conventional chamfer.
