Stock IX JDM MAP shows full boost at 4000RPM

Looking for others who have had the same experience. I have direct ECU boost control with GST Motorsports restrictor. Problem is everything was working awesome and I was getting 21 PSI by 3000 RPM with zero knock on 91 oct pump gas but now I don't see 20 PSI until 4000 RPM. Where did my 1000 RPM spool disappear to? I don't have any knock above a few 1-2 counts and thought I might have a boost leak so I performed a leak check and it held rock solid to 30psi with no leaks. I feared that perhaps a portion of the ceramic porcelain broke off a plug and damaged a turbine wheel slowing the spool so I checked all the plugs and they are fine and indicate good brown color without any signs of detonation. I logged to see what if it defaulted to the low octane map and it was running the high octane map on both the 3000 RPM spool and the 4000 RPM spool. It has been like this for two tankfuls of gas (about 400 miles).

I figured that this is more appropriate in this forum rather than ECU flash since nothing was reflashed between loosing the spool. Power is also significantly down to correlate with the lost spool. Everything else seems to be fine without any hesitation, missing or stored error codes. Nothing in the hardware has been changed to account for the loss in spool either. Any ideas? I can post logs later if need be.

Unhappy It is not the turbo, wastgate or boost controller...

Eariler today I pulled the line off the wastegate actuator to eliminate any potential boost controller issues. Still had slow spool in first and second gear but in when I logged in fourth it spooled 21 PSI by 3250 rpm. First and second took over 4000 rpm to obtain the same pressure. Prior to this problem onset all gears hit 20-21 psi at the same early rpm (3250).

Well after reading a few horror stories of wastegate flappers either coming off the wastegate arm or the retaining band coming off and not allowing the flapper to seat properly and leading to slow or no spool I pulled the stock turbo off tonight to investigate.

I also pressure tested the stock wastegate actuator and its cracking pressure was 12-13 psi and it held without any leaks (no torn diaphram). It also had the stock preload setting on the flapper valve so it was sealing as confirmed when I pulled the turbine housing off.

Inspection of the turbine wheel itself doesn't show any erosion or damage. The turbo has no shaft play, doesn't leak or burn oil, and it spins freely as it always has. This leads me to rule out the turbo or wastegate as culprits. If it would help with suggestions I can post datalogs.

I replied to your pm but also wanted to ask this about the above quote.

So you pulled the hose off the wastegate actuator right? You should get as much boost as the turbo can generate if you do this. Extreme overboost. Did you not get this? Or did you WOT just to see when it would spool and then quickly get off the throttle?

Thumbs up

With the line off the wastegate actuator it hit boost cut in the 4th gear pull at 28psi and then I backed out. Once spooled everything seems ok. Here is a 2nd gear log and you can see that it doesn' hit 20+ psi until 4000 rpm even with the wastegate line pulled.

I've been given the suggestion to check the cat for an exhaust restriction. That's what I'll check next.

Higher gears will allow boost to reach the peak value at lower rpm. For me, peak boost in 2nd gear is around 3700-4000 rpm. In 3rd gear, its around 3200-3300 rpm. In 4th, its around 3000 rpm. Hills can cause the same thing. Have you been doing all your logs in the same gear and on flat ground?

Checked the cat and everything is fine. If it is as suggested that what I'm seeing is normal what else would account the loss of power in the lower rpm ranges?
