I don't know yet, but My place ordered the parts and said it was covered. I will let you all know how it ends up. It is not a done deal yet.

4. 10,000- Throwout bearing was bad from start
5. They replaced the flywheel, pressure plate, throwout bearing all were covered by the warranty. I replaced the clutch disk while they had it all apart this was not covered by the warranty. It cost me $139.00 for the disk and $0.0 for labor.

RedCloud,
What indicated your throwout bearing was bad from the start and if it was, why did you get all the way to 10000 miles before it was replaced. I'm guessing Mitsu told you to keep driving it to see if the problem disappeared. 10000 miles on the stock clutch and pressure plate seems like a lot considering what others have posted. What kind of shape were they in? Did you do any hi rev launches? Sorry for all the questions but I'm trying to figure out how much time I have to save up for a new clutch assembly. My dealer made it clear when I picked up the car that the clutch had no warranty.
Thanks in advance,
Bluesmaster

Sorry blues master but, no one has long. I never launched above 5000 rpms and I launched very few times. I babied it alot and burnt out by 2600 miles. Once it started slipping I had about 500 miles before it would barely move. I put 1000 miles on my car in one week( all highway) if you subtract the near thousand breakin period that only left about 500 miles of everyday driving. I saw my car today dismantelled, It really pissed me of.Mitsu is going to have to do somthing, this is re*******dickuless

Is anyone else wondering how badly this is going to affect resale value? as soon as this gets to consumer reports and they start listing how frequently clutches are failing at such early / low mileage points and how incredibly expensive and time consuming the replacement is, I think this is going to raise a lot of red flags around these cars on the used market. Will 2004 models bring a change to address this?

It sounds like Sano and RedCloud go the same diagnosis (pressureplate, throwout bearing, and flywheel) perhapse this is a sign that Mitsu is finally figuring out what the problem is. Did either of you guys notice a lot of chatter on engagement whent he car was cold? Ever since the dealer to mine on a 100 mile shakedown drive I've been getting a lot of chatter and I'm affraid they overheated it and hotspotted the flywheel.

Maybe you guys drive too hard. Don't you think there would be a recall?

I wonder what across the entire evo owners spectrum what the results of clutch issues would be, not just a small portion of them on this forum. I also suspect the demographics of this forum might be a big factor in this issue.

It is known in other parts of the world that the evo clutch doesn't last long. I doubt that will ever do anything about it. It has been this way long before an evo reached our shores. The problem is the restrictor makes the cluch slip under hard launching and shifting in turn burning out the plate. That is made worse because when the plate wears down, the rivets ruin the pressure plate and the flywheel.

The clutch is just starting to slip. I've had a few problems here and there when I'm coming out of a turn and I double clutch to get into 2nd. I never had this problem until about 200 miles ago. Mostly its a problem when I'm coming out of a turn. Sometimes when I'm shifting, it does that too. I smell no clutch, but I know its burning up by the way it sounds when I shift. And no, I'm not driving hard or anything. I'm babying it, like everyone else. It has about 2600 miles right now.

as I stated before this was not do to hard driving, by anyones standard.

I know people who beat the crap out of their vette, ta, ss, mustang clutchs and they all last at least 20,000. The bottom line is the clutch is very weak and it shouldn't be. The more of these problems that show up the more of you will realize that their is a major problem with this. The only way to avoid this problem is to NEVER drive the car above 5000rpms and never shift hard or launch, so basically you buy a 30,000 sports car to drive it like a civic.

Why are you double clutching, did you swap in a 1950's tranny? I mean seriously, why do you think you have multiple synchros in 2nd gear?

Because it's listed in the spec.

Another guy, skbydoo, is having his clutch pressureplate, and flywheel replaced under warranty.... posted it under the tranny failure thread limey started... sounded like he was getting it back monday.
