Also think about what is happening when your 2L is reving at a higher rate than a 2.3, you are staying in a lower gear for longer, which multiplies torque and accelerates the car faster.

are you people comfortable revving more than 8k?
I, for one, get scared when i see the number 9 on the gauge

i dont think i will ever be comfortable revving past 8~8.5k :*(

to put it in easy terms..going 2.2 will give you faster spool, and higher rev limit than the 2.3 yet maintain better (closer to 2.0) geometry...and the piston speeds at higher rpm are not rediculous like the 2.3
How high the mean piston speed before the engine is at risk of failure? I have read opinions ranging from 23m/s to 25m/s.

Keep in mind that it is not piston speed that kills the piston but acceleration at the top and bottom of the stroke... the longer stroke of a 2.3 puts significantly higher forces on the rod when the piston changes directions...

mean piston speed has not changed much since the 50's an old matchless single cyl motorcyle engine had a mean speed of 23m/s.. ducati's newest MOTOGP bike has a mean piston speed of 25.5m/s. Not that much of a difference...

What is different is that acceleration at the top and bottom of the stroke...
