GT30R Results

Hello All,

Last night I tuned a customers Evo 9 with the following:
Mynes Performance GT3076
Forge MBC
Tomei PONCAMS
TBE
Intercooler
Hard IC Pipes
Aquamist HSF-5

This was all done on stock ecu and stock block.

The car made really solid power.

This is pump only vs pump + meth.

On only pump the car was touching almost 400AWHP which on this dyno is astounding. But it was knocking a bit so I tuned it to a very safe and conservative 380AWHP.

Finished at 432hp and 380ft/lbs. Not too shaby for only 27psi. We could have gone higher but I wanted to leave it as safe as possible.

Turbo kit worked great and really made solid power. Props to Mynes for a solid turbo kit.

Thanks,
Mitch M

That's very nice on a Mustang Dyno!

I've been caught between a 3065 and a 3076 if I ever decided to go big turbo.

Both very good choices just kind of depends on what you are looking to achieve.

what are the main differences between them? not physcially but characteristic/performance wise.

It depends on who you get them from as most turbo companys have there little tricks but overall I would say that the 3076 would yield a bit more top end but you are going to have quicker spool with the 3065.

There are ways to help both of these out IE. switching A/R housing etc.. that can make them both very very effective either way.

Personally I like the 3076 although that may be a little biased as I have tuned more of them and just like the way that they react.

Couldnt agree more.

It's so hard to explain to people what a 30R offers when they see the big numbers associated with other kits, transient response, power under the curve, and just having plain old tq down low is soooo nice

nice setup...

Mitch, I think you have it reversed... The 3076 (aka gt30r) is a smaller turbo than the 3065, or in garrett codes 3082r...

If I remember the numbers correctly the 3076 flows 52lbs and the 3065 flows 65lbs... There less lag with the 3076r and better top end with the 3065...

Indeed beautiful setup though...

That sounds right. I always remembered the smaller numbered turbo makes more power (3076 < 3065). They're kind of labeled backwards in that sense.

You are right I am thinking 3071R. The 3065 is not a basic garrett turbo and I think( I could be mistaken) it is more specific to FP?

Yes my mistake. Just switch what I said before and same theory applies.

you are right. The 3065 is an fp specific turbo. The equivalent garrett unit would be the gt3082r (aka 3040r)...

Based on the compressor wheel ONLY. 3065 isn't a 65lb turbo by an means though. With turbo's its hard to have your cake and eat it too... I honestly haven't seen one mismatched (big compressor wheel, small turbine wheel) turbo deliver how its claimed. I tested some turbos on a 1.9L honda motor awhile back. Gt3076, gt3040 (aka gt3065) and Gt35r. The gt3040 had almost the same lag as the gt35 with only a slight power gain over the gt3076r. It really didn't fill a void IMO. I dont' even think garrett lists it in there catalog anymore...it was one of the first readily available GT's awhile back.

Nice job BTW Mitch
