ARP headstud torque
Alright guys, I lost my instruction sheet for the ARP headstuds. I don't remember what the torque is. I believe it is around 80 lbs but I need to know the exact torque specified on the instruction sheet that ARP supplied with the headstuds (meaning the exact torque specified by ARP using ARP moly lube).
I've searched but didn't find anything specific enough to trust. I believe I posted this exact thing 6 months ago but got nowhere.
Anyone who has the instruction sheet or remembers specifically what the torque spec for the headstuds are, please give your input. You are greatly appreciated!

ARP instructions read: 200,000 psi 7/16 in. diameter head studs
Follow the manufacturers recommended torque sequence tighten the nuts in three equal steps to 80 ft. lbs with assembly lubricant..
Example: Torque all in sequence to 40 then 60 and finally 80.
Hope that helps.

No, you torque them to 80 if you're using oil. With MOLY LUBE they pull to 70 max unless you have 220,000 psi studs. The standard ones are 190,000psi, pn207-4203 and that is the tq value I quoted. If you have a different set, please forgive me. The tq for the 220000 psi studs would be 79 w/moly and 100 w/30wt oil.

I just have the "regular" ARP head studs that everyone else buys. I have ARP moly lube from my main stud set that I can use on the head studs too. So, 71 is the recommended torque value for head studs with moly lube? OK! I got it now. Thanks everyone. I will be using this thread for future reference! Thanks again!

A 200,000psi 11mm Head stud (which we have) is 71 ft.lbs with the ARP Moly Lube and 90 ft.lbs with w/30 motor oil.
Also, ARP recommends to re-torque the head studs after you have run the engine because the metal head gasket compresses. Its best to run the engine until it reaches normal operating temperatures, shut it down and let the engine COMPLETELY cool off, pull the valve cover and re-torque to 71 ft.lbs. Thats the ideal scenario.
Because the instructions in the head stud kit are misleading, most torque the studs to 80 ft.lbs but never do the re-torqueing sequence so I would assume that the difference in the final torque is marginal. Especially since most DIY'rs are using a torque wrench which probably isn't fully calibrated anyhow.

I can not believe some people would still argue with one of the top engine builders on the 4g63. Be thankful they are confirming becuase some vendors on here wouldn't even share the data.

I have the m11 arp headstuds 190,000 psi I believe. I contacted arp and this was thier reply.
"Use factory sequence and torque the nuts to 80 ft lbs with ARP moly lube
or 85 with 30 wt oil.

He made a mistake. Or maybe the janitor answered the phone. It clearly states on p.24 of the ARP catalog that a 190,000 psi 11mm stud torques to 71 ft/lb with moly or 90 with oil. Either case he's way off.
If you pull it more than that you are just that much closer to the yield strength of the stud, which you don't want. You also run the risk of distorting the head. If you question any of this or feel the need to inform yourself on fastener technology I urge you to please read the tech information that can be found in the ARP catalog. You may also reference the info on p.24 which I stated above.
