o2 sensor break in period? help, p0171 related
ok so as most of u may or may not know, i have been getting the p0171 for about 7 months now. started when i got meth and hasnt stoped even with a new tune, cleaned maf 2x, cleaned air flited 2x, checked for leaks a number of times. so i have resorted to getting a new o2 sensor, the first one i think its called bank 1.
seeing how mitsu parts wants $366 for a new one with harness, and the guy on here who sells mitsu parts wants $255 for it, i went and got a bosch for $60. now with this bosch u have to cut your stock plug and splice the wires tothe new o2. well that was easy and made sure to seal the connection.
so i unhooked my battery, cleared the codes to see if it comes back.
anyways, when i start driveing the car, first i notice when u clutch the car while driving, the rpms go down to about 500 and the car almost stalls. air fuels are at like 17.5+ and its not running right. the throttle feels a lot less responsive as well. so i thought maybe the ecu needs some time to get use to the new o2 so i said i would give it a few days.
well the more i drive it the better it seems to get. now when u push the clutch in while driving, rpms sit at like 900-1000 and air fules are 15.3-15.9. so its getting better. seems to me like the ecu is getting use to it.
my question is, do these o2 sensors need time to "break in" so to say?
should have i spent the $255 on a stock denso o2?
will it keep getting better?

Hey, i have the same issue with the p0171 code. dont use the bosche, doesn't read perfect from what my tuner told me. he gave me a front o2 stock one from there shop car so i lucked out. i think i figured out my issue, which is the throttle body shaft seals. i ordered the part from works yesterday so ill let u know if that fixes it!

i had the same problem. Its not ur O2 sensor. the reason for the poor idle is bc u disconnected the batterie and the computer has to re-learn it self. U will be fine the more u drive it. Just give it a day or so...

I went thru this too. (no meth tho) The splice conntections are not good enough, and the sensor will stop reading randomly. When it does that, the car can not relearn the fuel trims, which those are whats casing the lack of power feeling. I have gone thru 2 other sensors before breaking down and buying the OEM one. I bought the oxygensensorgeek.com one, bosch one, and the OEM. I kept loosing my readings with all the sensors except the OEM one, but later found out that I had a loose pin connection on the car harness side. I retested the other 2 sensors (bosch & o2geek) and found that the o2 geek one was working right, but the bosch was still bad.
