Only time I ever had that problem, I had 1/10th the mods of you (definitely no cams). I had the code 3 times, the car started fine and didn't have any issues every time... Water got on the sensor from car washes and would somehow trigger the code. I doubt that's your issue, but I believe there are two crankshaft pos sensor codes, and I had both.

yes people have had this problem, but it has been discussed numerous times. i have gotten this code several times. it usually happens with a half crank or when someone with a very loud V8 is staging next to me. The sensor was probably fine. All i have ever done was reset the battery, and keep trying to crank it. not telling you what to do, but that is what has worked for me

I only have info from the VIII manual - I hope it is the same.

Power to the sensor is fed from the MFI relay, located in the fuse/relay box in the engine compartment.
Open the long skinny cover to the right of the battery, not the big black box. The MFI relay is the second one down.
Check for power there.
