t28 isnt much bigger than the factory turbo, so i would say sell it and use the money from it to buy a larger turbo or green you still want good spool

If you already have it, its worth giving it a shot and finally having some good hard info for the board on the 28! You can probably pick up a revhard mani cheap, then just add the necessary parts to get her running. If you don't like it, then you can just swap turbos

like he said you will need a different manifold and all the lines to go to the turbo, in the end you might see 375-400hp if you max it out and the stock turbo can do that, the only advantage i see is A. you have it already and B. its ball bearing so it will spool very quickly

I agree with street. Although I think you will be able to hit the numbers guys are doing with super maxed stock turbos and very well put together engines, with less work, maybe a bit less on the turbo psi wise. Who knows. if you can 400's without fully built top and bottom ends with crazy tunes and such, you will have found a good combo! It would also be interesting to see the 28 with meth, or with e85 iif its available to you. Plus, if you don't like the results, find another turbo that'll fit that manifold, and all you have to do is sell your turbo, buy a new one and swap since everything else will be in place. Heck I would be interested in trying something like that out lol spool here in Denver becomes a bigger issues then all you lowlanders.

I have always wanted to see what this turbo would do. I know it has a lot more steam in it than our stocker. I think that turbo will give you a much fatter powerband. Is this an internal or external wastegate? I say bolt it on and see what numbers you make. If it is disappointing then upgrade. I think if you even send that GT28 in for an HTA conversion that would be a solid 400whp car all day.

I'm familar with the GT28 in the SR20 world. Is it the same thing I'm thinking of? I mean just the Garrett T28 was used from the factory on the S14 SR20DET engines and the most people have gotten out of those on an SR20 is 320hp. It also runs past its efficiency range after 15psi. The GT28 (dual BB) was used on the S15 SR20's and the most gotten out of a SR20 with those is 350hp. If its the GT2871R than thats a capable 400hp turbo. Just trying to get a clarification on what turbo?

a gt2871r can make 400whp on 25lbs. on our cars. It is slightly smaller than the 30r. It will make a lot of torque too.

You know even if it made just a bit more power then stock, what I would love to see is if its a smoother power curve and if it can hold boost to redline and not be so spikey like the stocker and green. That in its self, imho, would make it a worthy upgrade for TT and autox or street

The 2876r is the largest. Add an HTA to that and bam we might have something. problem is the power is not justifiable to the cost for most people. You will make a solid 380-400whp. This isn't going to be just a spike like the stocker. It has to be external wastegate though for it to really perform. Only a good idea for the 03-04 guys or somebody looking for a green competitor.

28r or 28rs? 2 diff turbos... what back housing does your turbo have? t2 or t3? if you got the t3 .. I would giv it a try... a 400whp turbo with alky..I did 340whp on a 1.6 nissan motor at 25lbs.. after that on my sr20 19l-20lbs 360whp without cams ....super fast spool.

ga16dne nissan motor complete stock ..1.6 liter t2 0.86 back housing..
