EXACTLY !!!!!!!!!!!
They don't Research anything... they create a Spec..... The Spec isn't Mobil 1 .... The Spec is Viscosity, Grade and Synthetic...
Now, to Royal Purple...... Royal Purple shears out of Grade Extremely fast just for starters.. Great, it made 7 HP over, I believe, a Petroleum oil. For how long ? AMSOIL was tested in a Corvette, which comes with Mobil 1 from the factory, by Vinci Performance for Corvette Fever Magazine... From memory, there was a 6 HP gain with using the AMSOIL over another Premium Synthetic.
The only tests I have available anymore are Royal Purple Motorcycle oil and RP Gear Lube.... Both of which failed miserably in Independent Tests... Which, I thinks states what the rest of the companies products are like...
I will go back to this... Forget MSDS, Forget Oil Analysis, I would like to see ASTM Tests along with Technical Data Sheets... If a company is hesitant about making them public, what is that really saying about their product ?

Although Quaker State is not my favorite oil by a long shot, I would place money on it that it did not cause your engine to blow, as long as it was the proper weight, grade and it was synthetic as Mits recommends for the EVO.

Anything is possible, that is why it is ALWAYS Wise to pull an oil sample for analysis AND pull the oil filter and place it in a plastic bag to avoid contamination..
I have seen OEM's back down from blaming an oil when tha analysis comes back good.. and I know of at least 1 Filter company that has bought more than one engine.

this is just some btw info
i sold my b14 sentra with a sr20de jdm high port and it used quaker state all the time and dino oil mostly with some syn blended in between
had a jwt ecu which was not sold with the car and many other parts that were scrapped too
new owner put mobil full syn in, same weight as i was using and lately he developed a timing chain noise
i gave that engine more abuse with the ecu(higher rev limit than a stock ecu) when i had it and he has a unmodded engine and did some damage
i like my quaker state but for the evo is amsoil front to back

damn, have about two cases of q hp oil. seems like its a mix of 50/50 on like or dislike. I'm a mobile 1 synthetic guy but seems like amsoil is a superior oil compared to it.
