Question Noob q: Removing cover under engine

Hey all,

Now here comes my noob question. I wanted to torque down the clamps at the intercooler, and took a quick look at the cover below. There are many of the clips which have a philips like screw head, but turning it doesn't seem to do anything. I can see the backs of the clips through the mesh, and it's not really threaded in, it's one of those deals that "pop" in. Is there a trick to removing them without breaking them all? Am I missing an even easier way to remove the undercover?

Why couldn't they just be regular screws/bolts, heh.

Thanks,

FB

Try getting a fingernail under the edge of the plastic screw and pulling it outward at the same time that you turn the screw with your screwdriver. Worked for me.

You have to turn them gently, not pressing down on the screwdriver.

If you have a cordless drill it works great. The speed of the drill gets them out no problem. Taking them out with a screwdriver sucks considering the is about 20 or so. Guess the good new is putting them back in is really easy.

Well if you are serious, that is not good. It is there to control airflow under the car and affects the cooling system airflow. Not to mention the brake air flow directors built into it. Or the fact that it shields some of the crap from the road, particularly salt from getting on the motor and turbo and helps inhibit it's corrosion.

well i did take it out, but its not like i go rally racing every weekend or anything, i plan to put it back on after i get my new clutch put in, had to take it off to do the intercooler piping and the exhaust, which i still have made the lower IC pipe yet so i havnt put it back on, when i get the clutch in it will go back on, but pretty much every thing on the car will pop off with out breaking, guess they made it where it wouldnt be a pain in the *** to work on
