Broken front Diff...What next???
So what did you do or going to do if you broke your front diff? What are the current options out there?
I know alot of people had this problem especially with the 03-04 evo 8's. I read alot about how to tell if your front diff is broken but no one continues their thread with a update on what they did.
Currently my car was diagnosed with a broken front diff. the mechanic report says
"Road test clunking comes from front, left and right depending on turns. Tech found chunks in transm oil Inspected transm.center diff. transefer case oil was clean but transfer differential spiders, chewed up and dumping chunks into transmission clean transmission."
Yes I searched and found:
OPTION:
Call shep or some transfercase expert to send me a new rebuilt one.
Or does anyone know if i could just swap out the fornt diff and call it a day or is that a big no?
thanks in advance

ooo yea that's another option I forgot about. I know tre also repair the broken one or something like that.
also I know I could find a spare used one but I rather upgrade.
if you read the mechnaics diag. sounds like the center diff is broken but the front diff is in the transfer case correct and the center diff is in the tranny or something

Just go to Shep! I blew my front diff to pieces! Took it to Shep and it was done the next day. I had the Ralliart 04 RS LSD put in mine!
Options:
Shepherd Rebuild:
Quaife- best but most expensive (lifetime warranty): 1800
Ralliart- Cheapest and best LSD for price (in Buschurs RS): $1100
Re-do Open Diff: $350
Sheps page with your options:

I think i might go with the quaife option and just replace it my self. I found the how to on here and it doesnt seem to hard.
im just hoping its the front diff because when i re-read the mechanics diag. he made it sound as if its the center diff.
But im pretty sure its the front diff because in the report it says something about the transfer case spider gears were chewed up and i belive the front diff is in the transfer case.

It is the center diff tecnically, the front diff is inside the transmission. But yes, you blew the diff. I would go with the quiafe if they have them in stock, but that wahts hard to find. They are usually backordered. I went with the RS diff because the quaife was going to be 2 months before it got in. Buschur still has the stock TC with 04 RS diff in it and hes running mid 9s!

I pulled and removed all the stuff myself. I just took it to shep to have the case upgraded and because he was the only one who had the diffs at the time. Its not hard at all.
