50trim cams

Currently i have an hks 264/272 set up on my evo. With the stock head and 50 trim. I was wondering what kind of power increase i would get from going straight 272's, and what i would get if i went with 280's. I've read that people have made alot of power with 280s on even the stock turbo, so im thinking that with the 50 trim, it would just make even more power.

I wouldn't see why you can't make more power with bigger cams. Might shift your spool a bit to the right side of the dyno sheet tho. I think if you go with a more aggressive cam of any size yore heading in the right direction

Yeah exactly my thoughts
i mean, 272's vs 280....maybe 200rpm later spool up, but how much power gains?

If this is on your daily driver I would stick with your idea of straight 272's or what you have now. Have you ported your head and put bigger valves in yet? If not then don't worry about the 280's yet. The power band would increase on the high end but the torque loss down low would be pretty aggravating on the street unless you wind it up for every shift. Of course that's just my drunken 2 cents worth.

If you're worried about the loss down low, why not try a staggered setup...272/280 or 280/272. You get the best of both worlds.

I know guys who daily drives w/ straight HKS 280's on stock turbo and they say it's really not that bad.

I don't think you'll see much of a difference going from 264/272 to 272/272. But replacing the 264i to a 280i or straight 280's would yield more power.

Going from HKS 272 to HKS 280 cams, I gained 20 whp with maybe 100 RPM loss in spoolup on what was at the time an AMS 3071 pump gas setup on a stock head. You'll probably see slightly better gains on your setup. IMO it is well worth the upgrade, especially on a stock head. After fiddling with a lot of cam gear settings, I ultimately ended up running them at +2i/0e. I still run the same cams on my current setup (50 trim, AMS VSR, ported head, etc.) and am very happy with them (421whp on 93 octane). Although I must admit that with the ported head on the car now, I am toying with the idea of going with even bigger cams, hehe...
