Evogreen vs gt3076r
Hi all
Thanks for your advice. Yes, I do have a JDM Evo 9 (i.e. the full spec/power version, which our friends over in Aussie don't get. They got the version with 'only' 355nM torque and 195kW ).
I forgot to add that I'll be throwing in an Exedy twin plate clutch too.
To be honest, I'm still very unsure. If if did go the way of the green, I'd wait for the HTA green.
If I went the way of the Green I'd probably do the O2 housing and FMIC and piping upgrade too.
Given that the 3076 kit would cost many $$$ more than the Green, I'd only be able to afford the clutch, cams and 3076 kit (i.e. no FMIC upgrade).
I've done a heck of a lot of research on this site, but have been put off the Green by numerous comments that the Green doesn't provide much more power over a IX turbo (about a 25whp gain is what I've read). Having said that, the cost of the 3076 and the slower spool has been offputting. I don't mind a slower spooling turbo (500rpm is bugger all IMHO).
What about the gt35r? Again, my local tuner (who is an evo guru with the world's fastest evo 3 down the quarter 1/4 mile) reckons the gt35r is the way to go, but others have said no way (unless I get a stroker kit). Some guys claim that the 3076r produces pretty much the same power as the 35r, but with better spool. People on here are clearly divided too!!
My problem is that no-one around here has any of these turbos on their car
(Evo 9s are quite rare in NZ, let alone Evo 9s with upgraded turbos etc.). I've yet to see an Evo 9 in New Zealand which has a Green turbo!! If they did, I could go for a test drive.....

Honestly Mark, If you're on a budget, I'd stick with the Green or one of the other stock turbo based options. I've had a turbo similar to the Green, a 3076 and a 35. The 35 is my favorite, but if you're not going to run close to 2 bar of boost, it isn't worth it. It's also more power which means you could break more parts (hint- transfer case) which means even more money.

Mark H... take this from a guy who had the stock, 76r and 35r. Smile, Smiles and MORE SMILEs. For a street application the 3076r spooled up very good. I made 395 whp with 350tq on 23psi. When I changed the set up a bit and added more boost (29psi) and meth I made about 450whp. Top end was great, I had a .82 back end, everyone I let drive the car loved it. Then I wanted more so I went 35r with a .63 back end. With just the change of turbo and tune I made 531 on 31psi. I really put those brembos to use. Lag is overrated boost is just a down shift away. The motor revved out to 8600rpm with no problems. I had all the supporting mods.. FMIC, 850 injectors, 264in 272ex cams. The ECU was flashed. From my experience I would not even bother with a green. Hope that helps.

^^HTA 3076 ^^
green is a good street turbo but if u plan on top end or highway driving go with the 30R
but buy what u can afford..not everyone has deep pockets!
FROM FP WEBSITE
One of the most popular of the Garrett Ballistic Concepts Turbochargers has been the GT3076R. This mid-sized roughly 52 lb/min flow rate turbo is widely used in 2.0 - 2.7 litre applications seeking a 400-500whp output level with minimal turbo lag.
The only thing that could make this turbo any better would be a better compressor wheel that delivers decreased spool time and increased max output, and we have just that, the HTA wheel aero. Scaled down to 76mm exducer and 54.8mm inducer this aero flows over 57lb/min without dropping efficiency, and works well to sustain boost pressures above 40psi is needed without compromise.
There optional turbine housings for this turbo, but the recommended default housing is the .82 A/R or .63 A/R T31 style with it's compact 2.5" diameter 4 bolt outlet. We have the corresponding gaskets and flanges for this housing if needed.
