Mirage VR-X JDM Spec 1.8T
Hello all,
I've been a member of the community for years but haven't posted before. I've learnt much from you guys and I've also bought parts from some of you.
My car is a 1996 Mirage VR-X (JDM Spec) 50/50 AWD. I live in Grenada, which is in the Caribbean, so there is a huge market for used Japanese cars.
The above pic is from a regional drag racing event which was held on an abandoned airport strip in Grenada. Best time of 14.022 @ 96.77 MPH @ 15psi.
The car comes with a 4G93T (1834cc) engine with a TD04L-13g turbo. Mitsubishi rates the car at 205bhp.
Modlist includes:
K&N Intake
Evo IX Fuel pump
Evo IV FMIC with Evo LICP and Custom 2.5" UICP
2.5" TBE
Apexi SAFCII
Innovate LM1 Wideband
Bigger 60mm throttle body port matched to intake mani.
Hallman Pro Boost Controller (in cabin)
The car runs well and really wakes up at 15psi vs. stock boost at 10psi. Even at 15psi and stock injectors (390cc), the car runs pretty rich, AFR's in the 10's range. As you would expect the TD04 runs out of puff past 5500rpm or so. I have a TD05HR 16G-9.8T from a USDM EvoVIII which I have not installed yet. Any idea as to what psi this turbo's wastegate is set to?
The above shows the stock TD04 like what's on my car versus the TD05 from a USDM Evo8 that I plan to use. Hope I can spool it
As you can see the battery was relocated to the trunk to make way for custom I/C and intake piping. I have an EvoIX Diverter Valve on the way so I can hold more boost, versus the stock valve on my set-up which can only hold up to 12psi.
We have no dyno in Grenada and finding a good tuner is very difficult, most people outsource to tuners from Barbados or Trinidad. I was brainstorming ideas for Engine management and was wondering what your thoughts were on using a flashable EvoVII ECU with a Tactrix cable, it would have to be tuned to suit with the right datalogging equipment.
Any questions, comments, and feedback is appreciated.
Much respect

Nice to see a fellow islander representing.
Another great car we don;t get here in the USA.
If you can get the tatrix cable to work you can get an e flash from most tuners since you already have a wideband to log the car. You would jsut need to take a log of the car with evoscan and the wideband and send that off and they can work on a map for you.
I am pretty sure TTP can handle it.
Good luck, trini out.
