The norris car is going with a longitudinal engine in his evo ix.

Just read this on MLR, thought I share it with you all. Very interesting project.

Yes but Norris is keeping it AWD!!!!!

First he makes the worlds first 2 door Evo... 9.2 on street tires!

Now he is making a totally new beast. Amazing.

Whats the benefit if he's keeping it AWD and not converting to RWD?

I think, and I'm not really sure as I have not even read the MLR thread yet... but I think it's so he can run some of those very slick gearboxes available for that positioning. And then I think he runs a Skyline transfer case? I'm not really sure.

I think he is after a more reliable drivetrain ultimately. We all know Evo gearboxes and transfer cases are not the most reliable when you are making around a 1000 hp.

why?? come on guys you shouldn't need to be askign these questions! lol

first of its for weight distributuion. Simon has be talking about doing this for some time. the Evo is a great handling car but its not got the engine and box in the ideal place. frm the pics you can see simon is going to push the engine bacj as far as he can. this will help greatly with the weight distribution. also uits something the ford gusy have been doing for years over here. i must have sene 20+ for Focus (both generations) with these front-mid mounted engines and 4WD!

second reason is the 'box. most people know that simon has been destroying gearboxes on Evos faster than anything! it was the main cause of down time on the IX. so now he should beable to find a box that can take the power.

finally its because no one else has done it!

as for the RWD thing, i would just wait and see. Moses Evo on here has some intresting things in the pipeline and you can garante NorrisDesigns will be helping him with it!

Chris.

That looks like alot of work! At least for a good purpose since the evo IS a nose heavy understeering PIA.

Siomon's not crazy mate. he just loves Evos and has the money, time, contacts, knowlage and ability to get something like this done! also its a great sales tool.

There is an event over here called Ten of The Best (TOTB) and simon is there every year. the event is basically to test the cars in every field (not jsut drag racing or short autoX racing) to see who is the best. overall honers have been taken by Scoobies for the past few years and Simon wants to take it back.

as i said before this is not a big task over here. guys are always converting Ford Focus chassis to longitudinal layouts with 4WD but they use Ford Escort RS cosworth running rear. this build is using MUCH stronger running gear!

Cheers

Chris.
