whats more streetable act xtss or exedy twin hd

what clutch is more strretable the act xtss or the exedy twin hd??
this will be going on s stock motor with a fullrace twin scroll gt35r turbo kit. car must be streetable. the car will be driven everyday in stock and go traffic and at least 25k miles a year. car will run 91 octane 99% of the time and will be at about 400whp most of the time.

i know everyone recomends the exedy twin HD but is it easier to drive than the act xtss?
keep in mind the car will rarely ever hit the drag strip. i also already have the xtss i was just wondering if it would be worth it to sell the act and go buy the exedy twin hd for a street car

Dont get a twin disc then if its your DD.

My Exedy lasted less than 8k miles.

My ACT Street Disc lasted 30k

I went back with Xtreme PP with 6 puck.

Although I know everyones experiences are different, I have to disagree with you on this one EvOcRaZy. Hopefully we can discuss this like mature adults. I have a Exedy Twin disc and my car is my daily driver. I have had it for a little over 20,000 miles with no problems and it still holds strong. My car is making right around 315AWHP on a Mustang dyno and pretty close to the same for torque so by no means a beast but a good daily driver, reliable build.

OP how strong is your left leg? LOL I have driven my buddies car with the ACT XTSS and man let me tell you, I wouldn't want to be in stop and go traffic with that thing! It holds everything but makes you work for it! LOL The exedy is designed to be slipped a little and allows for this. In my experience the ACT doesn't really allow much slipping and low speed start up can be difficult at times.

I hope this has helped you a little bit in your decision and I am sure more people will chime in and share there opinions.

The clutch shudder and high RPM lockout the ACT's are notorious for makes me walk away.

I had an Exedy twin in my STI....drove and beat the crap out of it for 25,000miles. Buddy had an Exedy twin in his Evo....I know he had at least 20,000 miles on it when he upgraded it to a triple.

The Exedy twin is a good DD clutch...very little clutch shudder, which just sucks to begin with.

just be sure to remove the restrictor pill and the twin clutch will last well over 20k miles...

I thought the twins were prone to shudder? I haven't heard of that on the ACT (at least not on mine)

The ACT I had in my Evo when I bought it was a piece of sh*t....clutch shudder and high RPM lockout weren't even the words to describe it.

I've driven my buddy's twin multiple times....never had an issue with shudder and I have never heard him say anything about it either.

As I said before everyones experience will be different. I am very happy with mine. If you are in the area any time I will let you drive mine and see if I can get my buddy with the ACT to let you drive his. The difference is night and day. If you are looking for a stock like pedal feel with the ability to hold a great deal of torque then, I feel, the Exedy twin HD is the only way to go. Again just my humble opinion.

Gentlemen thank you for your feedback and suggestion and keeping this thread easy to read and a good conversation. I am sure the original poster appreciates it too.

thx a lot guys
so to sem it up the exedy twin HD holds the power, is better at drag racing, is better at auto x, and has less clutch chatter and is very easy to drive everyday in stop and go traffic?

But I have been told that the exedy twin hd is alot more expensive. Does anyone know will the exedy twin hd clutch last longer with spirited daily driving over the ACT HDSS?

I daily drove my evo for over a year in brooklyn with the Exedy twin, I loved it. Pedal pressure is not that much stiffer then stock, grabs great, lasts a long time as long as youre not pushing huge power, Ive been running mine for almost 2 years now.

Same here. Almost 2 years now and more than 10k later, still grabs like new when I got it on day one.

can somebody let me know if i made a stupid decision, basically i got a evo IX MR with about 515 whp, it has a 20/30psi, 93oct/E85 flip switch, so it will normally be driven with about 420-430 whp on 20psi, but when at the track, it will be E85/30psi, it has an exedy hd twin, which is completely screwed, slippes everytime, im pretty sure the pressure plate is screwed as well, i talked to a mitsubishi tech and he was saying i should get another flywheel when i get the clutch. I asked another friend who knows alot about AWD cars, he drives a built STI, and he recommended i get the ACT XTSS, so ordered and just got the ACT XTSS with Streetlite Flywheel, it hasnt been installed yet, but after reading alot of forums, im thinking it might be dumb to go from an exedy twin to ACT, the only reason i did this is because you have to replace the exedy's every 10,000-20,000 miles, and ive heard the ACT can last 50k+, and i called to get a price on the exedy complete rebuild and pressure plate, plus a decent flywheel it is about 1200$, i really dont plan on modding the car much more, im just wondering if this was a good or bad idea, from my perspective, car makes roughly 480wtq, i think, so either waste alot of money on exedy rebuilds over the next few years, or install this ACT XTSS, got the ACT and flywheel for almost 900 once again its not installed yet, so i can return if need be, it will be ran at the track a little bit, not too much, probably a few launches but mostly time trials, so what do youll think, opinions are appreciated, thanks
