Lightbulb Turn off that AC!

The guys at Alamo Autosports were nice enough to do an unscheduled dyro run on my stock Evo today. They're already running some crazy upgrades on their own cars. Anyway, they did forget to turn off the AC the first run so I got a graph with and without the AC on. Result? Loss of 24HP/17TQ They thought something was seriously wrong with my until they figured out the problem. Here's the sheet if anyone is wondering... turn that **** off when you're racing!!!

Can you post an SAE corrected graph as STD graphs tend to have inflated numbers.
Thanks

This jibes with the butt dyno. The car feels slow on really hot days when I have the AC on. I always thought it was air density killing the power... maybe the AC played a role.

Can anybody else confirm this from actual dyno measurement? AC on = way less hp.

I don't think I've turned the AC off since I bought my car back in March! I thought the AC was automaticall disengaged when you were at WOT.

In any case, I definitely turn the AC off for each of my AutoX runs (except maybe one when I forgot, heh).

I kinda thought that turning off the AC was a no brainer.

A.C. will always consume power due to parasitic drag. Same reason underdrive pullys give more power... they reduce parasitic drag by running the accesories slower than normal so they consume less engine power to turn them. Unless it's electric that is, but I don't think any one is using an electric ac comp yet.

I even turn mine off just to merge into traffic. I forget sometimes though and it is downright scary. Turbo lag & AC =

I dont think mitsu uses a wot cut off switch for the A/C , because ive heard of compressor's actually blowing apart from missing shifts racing from people not turning the a/c off on DSM's

not 100% sure on it but it doesnt feel like the a/c kicks off at wot

I only run the AC when the g/f is in the car. Guys: I don't care how much power you lose (and you deffinately feel the difference with it on) NEVER **** off the g/f!!!
