I would take a close look at the cam gears and check those settings before you do anything. If -8/+4 is correct, the car will be slow to spool and have poor midrange power. I find it difficult to believe your cams could be set like this.

The car will make good peak hp at -2/0. For quick spool and big midrange power, +1/-1 is a good setting. Either of these settings will require your car to be retuned for best results if your cam settings are at -8/+4 now.

Ted, do I run S2's at 0 / 0 even on a 2.4? Right now they are at -3 , -3 due to the build.

As always the best cam timing compromise varies according to what the engine is intended to do. When it comes to stroker engines that shorten the rod/stroke ratio, they slow movement of the piston around BDC, which means the intake cam would need to be retarded by a degree or two to equal a zero setting with a 2.0. It also means stroker engines tolerate a bit more effective duration on the intake. This being said, for a GSC S2 with your setup on the street, I'd try 0/-1 or maybe 0/-2.

Got some better cams, what do you suggest with these?

Kelford TX288 Cams w/ Ferrera Valvetrain

2.23l 4G64 Destroker

1.66 R/S ratio

6766 Turbo

9krpm

Thanks!

The effective duration on those cams is so long that there isn't much one can do with them, maybe aside from retard the intake 1-2 degree to reduce overlap, but it probably won't matter much.

Good thread, now I have a question too:

Mivec s2's. Are the exhaust cam settings worth adjusting or just leave it at stock? I don't have an adjustable cam gear on there yet but wondering if 100-150 would be well spent.

I know mivec is hard to just say what the exhaust cam needs to be at but it's an old enough combo now figured there would be some experience

Aside from the realization that Cosworth's present website is a complete disaster where navigation is concerned, I no longer see a link to any LC data for their cam sets, and I didn't record the IX LCs in my compilation.

Code:
ADV Duration	Duration @ 1mm Peak Lift	CenterLine
274 226 11.20mm 128
274 230 11.00mm 113
Does that help? Gsc s2 for mivec

That helps. The exh LC is the same as the VIII cam, which I would have guessed, but I prefer not to make assumptions.

I like that exh cam right where it is, so I don't see the need to spend on an adjustable gear. What I'd do instead is invest my time in tuning the MIVEC such that the int advance is just enough at low speeds to preserve a decent idle and good response <2.5k rpm, then crank it up a bit in the midrange (2.5k-5k rpm) to boost torque and spool the turbo, then gradually backed out to reduce overlap in the upper registers (5k+ rpm) and bolster peak hp. That scheme would probably end up looking something like: 113 - 105 - 113.

For everyday street use, I'd leave those cams as-is. For dragstrip work, the intake should be retarded about 2 degrees.

thanks a lot bud
my guess is that will make the car hold power better up top but will slow spool a little?
