That cam set is best suited to larger turbos and thoroughly ported heads. It has 238 degrees of effective duration and a LC of 108 degrees. In your situation, I'd probably advance the intake 1 degree and that's it. There isn't much else I would try to do with it.

Got an Evo 6, stock 2.0L with a JDM 70 series E9 Turbo (HRA-16G6mC) 22psi boost. The cams installed are BC 272. The turbo is phenomenal in terms of spool, so I'm looking to improve mid to high end power.
Any recommended cam gear settings?

One significant problem with those BC cams is AMS' testing revealed they do not match the cam card, which leaves one feeling around in the dark. If they seem phenomenal where spool is concerned, that could mean they are reducing power up top. I might suggest retarding the intake cam 2 degrees with no other changes. The idle will be smoother and the spool not as sharp, but it should help top side power if the tuning allows.

Actually, spool is/was amazing because of the type turbo used not the cams, since I had the turbo installed & tested before the BC cams were installed . In fact, I detected a slight delay/lag post cam installation, but it's not issue at all.
I'm going to attempt the the -2in, do a couple logs, see how it goes. Thanks Ted :]

Advance intake cam 1 or 2 degrees for quicker spool and response.

I'm assuming that all the recommended settings in this thread are crank degrees, not cam gear marks.... correct? As each cam gear mark equals 2 crank degrees.

Sorry for a total n00b question

No, when we speak specifically of cam adjustments, we are speaking in cam degrees, as found on the cam gear markings.

Hi Ted,

I lost 20kw after I installed the Tomei Poncam 270 in my Evo 7 (0/0 setting).

Could you please advise the setting for my below specs ?

Stock block

Thank you for your help

20kw is quite a large loss if the car was retuned for the new cams. Please go back be absolutely certain the cams are timed correctly.

The Tomei Poncams are mild street cams with a 105 degree intake LC, which is ok for street use with a small turbo, but isn't doing much for higher rpm power. You should try retarding both the intake and exhaust cams 2 degrees (-2/-2). That will improve peak hp.

For the Tx-272 on a 2.3L motor, you should try -2/-1 to improve higher rpm power with the reduced rod/stroke ratio with this moderate duration cam set and its 107/115 LCs.
