Hello Ted B, can I ask about tomei usa poncam 270 if you have information.
tomei usa states that more effective duration at 1mm than jdm tomei poncam 270. Claim effective duration is more than Kelford 272s. What cam gear settings are you advise?

The Tomei Poncam 270 has slightly more effective duration than the standard Kelford 272 (228 deg@1mm vs. 226 deg@1mm). Both of these are short effective duration street cams best suited for 2.0L displacement and turbos smaller than GT35R. The Tomei has a fairly wide lobe separation angle (110). For street use, I would go with a cam setting of -1/-2 or -1/-3.

I would skip both and use a GSC S2, run straight up or possibly 0, -1, and enjoy the quicker spool and better street performance. The limited fuel octane and smallish turbine A/R (for a divided T4) lead me to believe neither of the cams you mentioned are going to provide you with much aside from increased lag. Between the two however, I prefer the LSA of the S3, although one can likely make them dead even with timing adjustments.

Good to know ! I forgot to mention it's a long rod setup which I have plans to rev out to 9500-10k.

Would that change anything in terms of cam choice in your opinion ? Or would the S2s keep me going through the top end assuming the divided AR doesn't fall on its face before then.

The slightly longer rod is a minor difference that wouldn't change my cam choice, as I don't see that setup warranting shift points in the 9500-10k rpm range.

Your setup won't make power past 8500. If you have a stock intake manifold peak power will be around 7200-7500rpm.

Ted B, need your advice. I have HKS 274/278 cams with a stock 4g64 block and a stock evo 5 turbo, might be upgradingto a 9 turbo. What cam gear settings would you recommend for both?

I cannot offer advice because I do not have the specifications for these cams and do not see them listed on either the HKS USA or HKS Japan websites.

I should have known the newer HKS cams would have 110/110 lobe centerlines. They always did and clearly still do. Try +2/0. Advancing the intake cam 2 degrees makes the idle bumpy, but gives a big midrange punch where the small turbo is most efficient.

Hello!
What would you recommend (cam gear timing settings)? Thanks

2.0l 4g63 Evo 8
GSC S1 cams
Walbro 340l/h fuel pump
Factory Evo 9 Turbo
3" APS Exhaust System
HKS RS intake kit.

Retard the exhaust cam by 1-2 degrees for bigger midrange torque and quicker spool. The idle will be a bit lumpier, so expect that.

-2/-2 will give slower spool but a bit more hp around the peak. This is good for 1/4mi drag but not as good for street work.
