We can't just spit out cam settings for a IX. Where you set the exhaust cam depends largely in part on your MIVEC tuning. To advise, I need to be reminded on what is the maximum possible MIVEC advance setting, and the lobe centerline for the M2 IX exhaust cam.

hmm i have hks 264/272 fp green turbo e85

what would be the best settings? and how would it affect my tune? would it be safe to adjust without a new tune? ... i have adjusted the cams withtout tune before but now i have a 27psi tune.. and the cams were set at 0/0

thanks

This was a very popular cam combo back in the day. The standard Vishnusetting was -3/-3. More recently, Warrtalon ran these cams for a while(maybe still does?IDK), so you might want to ask him.

Retarding both is shortening comp stroke to expansion stroke with overlap toward ATDC. This will effect each car defferently Just use recommendations as guidelines.
Best way to tun cam settings is trial and error for that car, too many variables at hand to expect a particular result.

are the HKS gears different in terms of degrees? it may sound weird but the gears say 1 degree = 2 degrees crank.

I have a evo 6 rs2 with hks 272's and using these gears I have tried -2/-1. looking for good low down / strong mid range power.

The car is street driven but weekend solo II events. good idle is a must. TedB any ideas?

well after much testing it seems that for the evo vi with hk2 272's and the standard turbo
-2/-1 seems to work best. i tried most combos and this gave the best mid range punch. The
-4/-1 seemed to make power more at the top where the turbo could not keep up. if i had on an evo IX turbo then it may have worked better.

when I go to the dyno I will post up a before and after sheet, the last dyno before the cams was 310whp and 305 torque. This was with a power fc and water meth and 91 octane crap fuel. I am hoping for more like 330 but more torque in the mid range.

There is no set recipe for cam timing. It 's dependant upon too many individual factors like cooling, turbo, boost, cams etc.

Here is my guide of cam settings over a huge glass of wine without any experimented experience:
+ - = more overlap, better spool but unhappy engine at higher rpm (esp with small turbo)
- + = less overlap, less spool, both expansion and comp stroke shortened (turbo dependant)
- - = small comp/expansion stroke ratio so engine cooling efficiency increased, (giant turbo)
+ + = ?

I don't know how TedB keeps his brain from blowing up when particular cams are added to the formula

+5/+3 settings on kelford 272's with FP Red on 2.0 made it spool about 500rpm quicker, but needed 2psi more boost in the top end to keep the same peak power.
(+3 on the exhaust had nil effect on power, just set to keep overlap manageable.)
